Gore: Bush is 'renegade rightwing extremist'
Al Gore has made his sharpest attack yet on the George Bush presidency, describing the current US administration as "a renegade band of rightwing extremists".

In an interview with the Guardian today, the former vice-president calls himself a "recovering politician", but launches into the political fray more explicitly than he has previously done during his high-profile campaigning on the threat of global warming.

Denying that his politics have shifted to the left since he lost the court battle for the 2000 election, Mr Gore says: "If you have a renegade band of rightwing extremists who get hold of power, the whole thing goes to the right."

It is significant, however, that Mr Gore refuses to go beyond saying that he has no "plans" for such a campaign. "I haven't made a Shermanesque statement because it just seems odd to do so," he has said - a reference to the famous announcement by the civil war general William Sherman, who unequivocally refused to stand in the election of 1884. "If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve," General Sherman said.

Edited on Tue May-30-06 08:49 PM by Exiled in America
I'd actually love for Feingold to be President, but seeing as how I find that unlikely, Gore / Fiengold would be a very effective team I believe.

13. "Renegade right-wing extremist ." I think Al's got it!
R/W, attack Gore for that statement, if you must. It is political, ergo fair game. But back off the ad hominems over his science. At least Gore has science. You R/Wers have only fear, loathing, and superstition on your side. Put your heads back in the sand where they belong. Oh? Well that's OK too. Just stick them back up your asses if that's more comfortable.

Help is on its way

14. Every vote counts
In the history of editorial boo-boos, few can out-goof the Chicago Daily Tribune's "Dewey Defeats Truman" front page in November 1948. That classic humiliation is imprinted on the collective journalistic psyche, not just because a major paper miscalled a presidential election on the night - which might even have been forgotten in time - but because in St Louis the next day it was gleefully held aloft by the victorious Harry Truman for the photographers, and thus for history

We have to remember that just because it looks like a sure win for democrats in this years election we all need to get out and vote and not just take it for granted. Every vote counts and we need them all.

24. Unfortunately, A Lot of Votes DON'T Count
We are in for some very unpleasant surprises in Ohio, Florida, Georgia
and the other Diebold states. We need to do whatever we can to minimize
the fraud in those states, but they will certainly steal some Congressional
seats and governorships that the polls show us winning, perhaps even some
seats we regard as absolutely "safe".

We will have to pick up enough votes elsewhere to make up for that.
It is going to be an uphill battle.

19. Gore, Maybe Feingold
The only chance for me to vote for a Democrat in 2008 will be if they nominate Al Gore ... possibly Feingold.

I'm done voting for the lesser-of-two-evils or for Republican-lite.

But, just as I was in 2000, because of his environmental record and positions, I could be enthusiastic about Gore.

Would be so wonderful to see a sentient Human Being with his mental faculty and sense of reality and true decency in washington DC once again.

What we've had foisted on us instead is too grim and dismal for words.

26. Gore talks like a candidate when he is no longer one. Figures.
He maintains he is not in the running. He has made some angry statements about how hopeless and futile is the political life. And now that he's not a politician...he's making the kind of statements that would have won a majority even Republican fraud couldn't beat, if he had made them in 2000.

And it would be nice if he did run, or if he doesn't want to, some Democratic candidate would show such daring. But of course, he won't and they won't.

Then again, it has only been five and a half years. :sarcasm:
