U.S. military says two Iraqi women shot to death

BAGHDAD, Iraq The U.S. military says two Iraqi women have been shot to death in a city north of Baghdad after coalition forces fired at a car that failed to stop at an observation post.

The statement came after Iraqi police said a pregnant woman and her cousin were killed by American troops as they were driving to a maternity hospital in Samarra, a predominantly Sunni city 60 miles north of Baghdad.

A statement from the military says a car entered a clearly marked prohibited area near coalition troops. The statement says "shots were fired to disable the vehicle" after it failed to stop despite repeated signals.

The statement calls the deaths "regrettable" and says "coalition forces go to great lengths to prevent them."

according to the story on cbs evening news, one of the women was in labor- which is why they sped thru the checkpoint at the maternity hospital.

4. Okay, no doubt about it now.
They are trying to provoke an all out End Times. This is occurring daily and I will never buy this shit about it being a mistake.

The mere presence of US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are the CAUSE of the destabilization. Don't believe it? Then why the massive riot after a truck "accident" in Kabul?

Its in the culture of the military spilling down from the top, and has been for decades. 'Abroad' life is cheap. they are somehow unhuman. there death is not a sad as your death. Its sick

12. Yeah, I just noticed that the women were on their way to a maternity
hospital. That child was probably hours away from being born, at which point the rabid pro-lifers stop caring about them anyway.

8. To many trips back into this country for these kids.
It may be a professional army but most of these men are really just about boys. It is in general the lower grades doing these jobs and they are young. They are trained to kill and it is the way people who train armies like to get them. Put young people in a scary place , who has only learned to kill and what can one think he will do? I am not shocked.

Lots of ways to disable a vehicle, other than killing all its occupants.
You would think that with all the money being spent, crossing gates
could be erected.

I am sickened beyond words at what this president has done.

**On edit: All occupants were not killed. The driver was not shot. Sorry for the error.

27.  U.S. probes killing of pregnant Iraqi
Attacks kill at least 22, including mayor and TV reporter

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- The U.S. military is investigating reports its soldiers killed two women, one of whom was pregnant, in Samarra, according to the U.S. military and an official with the Joint Coordination Center in Salaheddin province.

snip...

Witnesses of the Samarra shooting said the women were killed when their vehicle drove through a checkpoint around 3 p.m., but that information has not yet been verified, the Joint Coordination Center official said.

The official said 35-year-old Nahiba Husayif Jassim and Faliha Mohammed Hassan, 55, were headed for the hospital Tuesday for the delivery of Nahiba's baby.

snip...

"It was not until they shot the two bullets that killed my sister and cousin that I stopped," the AP quoted him as saying. "God take revenge on the Americans and those who brought them here. They have no regard for our lives."

Damn this war and those who got us into it. What freakin good are we doing these people? NONE...absolutely none!!!! Lord have mercy on us all.

29. "Unborn Victims of Violence Act"
Once Iraq becomes the 51st state, they won't be able to get away with stuff like this. Here in the good ol' USA, our godly repuke Congress :sarcasm: has made law that allows for multiple felony charges in this sort of case, one for the woman and a separate charge for the fetus.

Bit of a double standard here, don't you think?

All the pro-war Christian fundies out there will find a way to justify the killing of a woman in labor and her dead child.
