Boxer: Troops should be pulled out
Senator gives news conference in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO — U.S. troops should be withdrawn from Iraq in no more than six months and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s children should be dispatched as U.S. emissaries to war-torn Sudan, U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer said Tuesday.

...

Boxer announced Tuesday she'll introduce a resolution calling for withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq "within six months or at the earliest practicable date," meaning six months or sooner and not some indefinitely later practicable date.

Her resolution — which also calls for keeping troops nearby in the region should a quick return be needed and doesn't preclude specially targeted missions, training Iraqi security forces or protecting U.S. personnel — is similar to one already introduced in the House by Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa. But Boxer noted her resolution's reasoning is somewhat different. She believes U.S. troops have achieved all the benchmarks set for them — ending Saddam Hussein's regime, disproving the presence of weapons of mass destruction, training more than 240,000 Iraqi soldiers and police, and allowing for the election of Iraq's first permanent government

5. She's miles ahead. She's talking about bringing them HOME
where they belong, not redeploying to some other part of the earth to be put in harms way again.

13. I think you might be confused
Boxer is one of the few dems who did not vote for the 'war resolution'

are you thinking of Feinstein?

15. Barbara Boxer was the only U.S. Senator to officially object to the
2004 Presidential election - resulting in two hours of televised debate on the election on the Senate and House floor. If not for her, there would have been no Congressional debate on this crucial issue, and people would be less aware of if it today.

10. Withdrawal Now
Just get our troops out of that hellhole now. I'm hoping for a Democratic landslide in the fall elections, but don't want to wait until after November to push for immediate withdrawal.

Who wants to be the last American to die in Iraq?
What is the nobel cause?

Barbara Boxer should be supported.

12. She may've not made the right moves in the past -- but everyone needs
To support this now! We need Boxer's resolution and Kucinich and Murtha's and others to get through as fast as possible.

18. yea, Barbara, way to save face--yes, US has achieved all those benchmarks
So let's get the hell out NOW. I feel very sad and sorry for the Iraqis caught in the middle of a civil war that * helped create by his lack of foresight and critical thinking skills, but our presence is NOT improving the situation.
