Bush Meets Families of British War Dead
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 06:21 PM by JailBush
"The president's decision to meet the families also drew criticism in the United States. Some commentators noted he had not attended the funerals of any American troops, and his administration had barred television coverage of flag-draped coffins coming home.

"However, aides say Bush has met families of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq several times in private, and writes personal notes to express his condolences.

"In September, Bush met family members of 11 U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq, and he has also had other, unpublicized meetings, the U.S. official said."

1. Bush unable to look amputee or vet's Mom in the eye.
As I posted earlier in response to another topic, my best friend's brother, a journalist, interviewed an Iraqi vet/amputee and the vet's Mom. Bush had visited them in Walter Reed Hospital. The Mom said she stared at Bush the entire visit to see if he had the courage to look her in the face. He not only never looked at her, he not once even looked directly at her son, the hospitalized vet Bush was "visiting".

4. Wow, that's a POWERFUL experience.
I had a somewhat similar experience when I caught Washington State Governor Gary Locke and Seattle Schools Superintendent Joseph Olchefske both staring at me at a public forum. They looked like frightened rabbits as they jerked their heads away and tried to act normal as they continued their conversation, looking almost frightened.

It was the most bizarre experience - incredibly empowering but also pathetic. But eye contact - or lack of it - is something you don't seem to forget. You can read tons of stuff about a convicted officials' corruption in the media, but watching their beady eyes dart away really drives it home.

I'd love to have the opportunity to look George W. Bush in the face some day.

2. don't believe him for a minute
"However, aides say Bush has met families of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq several times in private," ~ what families...you'd think they would come to his defense.

While I'm glad he is finally meeting some families lost loved ones, he should have taken care of business at home first. This is a complete and utter outrage. He makes me sick to my stomach.

6. Good point...
Someone should think of a clever name for a website inviting families of deceased Gulf War II veterans to come forward and vouch for Bush's claims.

10. I like whatamputees.org.
Or maybe something like bush4vets.org, advertise it as an encyclopedic coverage of Bush's meetings with vets, then just post stories related to his rendezvous with the Queen.

8. And to back you up, please read the linked article...very sad...
Slain soldier's mother lashes out at Bush administration
<http://www.veteransforpeace.org/Slain_soldiers_111903.htm>

Excerpt:

Elaine Harriet Johnson said Bush was in her home state of South Carolina shortly after her son, Spc. Darius Jennings, was killed on Nov. 2 yet she said the president didn´t contact her to offer condolences.

“Evidently, my son wasn´t important enough to him dead for him to visit the family or call the family,' Johnson said after her son´s memorial on Fort Carson. “As long as my son was alive, he was important to him because he sent him over there.'

It was unknown Tuesday whether Bush has attended any of the memorials for soldiers killed in Iraq. A White House spokesman did not return a call.

14. I admit I'm gullible,
but even I don't believe this. If he visited with any of them, he would make sure there were a zilliion pictures of it, lots of press and only pick those who had all their limbs and a nice smile. He makes me sick.

17. who cares what he said?
What did the families of the dead soldiers have to say? Why do we never hear the view point of the people? Did they ream his ass? So sick of the pro-authority alignment of the freaking press.
