NYC mayor can't squelch rumors of White House bid

When billionaire Michael Bloomberg became New York mayor shortly after the September 11 attacks, some mocked his dullness and lack of political savvy.

Now the Republican mayor of America's most populous city doesn't understand why he can't quell talk he wants to be president.

"I won't be running for president (in 2008)," Bloomberg said on his radio show on Friday. "I don't know why I can't convince everybody."

Since taking office in early 2002, Bloomberg -- a longtime Democrat who switched parties in 2001 to run in the less-crowded Republican field -- has honed his political street smarts and built a niche as a social liberal and fiscal conservative.

7. I agree. Except for his GOP ass-kissing when switched parties
to run for mayor, Bloomberg is actually a really cool dude. I can't help it. I like him. He's ten times better than Rudy.

16. Some examples of how he's 'better' would help.
>>>He's ten times better than Rudy.>>>>

Shouldn't be hard to come up with '10'. But I'll be happy with five.

14. talk about a NEOCON-PNACer. This would never fly.
The country can't afford another AIPAC-ass kisser in the WH. We are being drained on every front from a ME foreign policy that sucks with hypocrisy, deceit, corruption, and stupidity! When will people stop the sacrificing of our progeny to this insanity?

2. Could Bloomberg win the South Carolina primary?
Edited on Sun Jun-18-06 03:20 PM by Charlie Brown
His ambition to become President would come to a screeching halt at that point.

5. Not to mention the weekly Critical Mass arrests
of people who are just cycling as a group.

They should be encouraged for saving fuel, not arrested.

17. He's trying to 'squelch rumors'. Uh-huh.
This has the distinct smell of 'manufactured news'. Bloomberg is an expert at that ; it's what he *does*.

I'd be interested to know how far B's 'information empire' extends beyond his own corporation. For example, he funds the Charlie Rose show; one reason, no doubt that 'news' topics on Rose are so twisted to the RW.

I'd like to know if he has significant holdings in other media; particularly NY media ( Times, News, Post,TV stations) that whitewash his five year 'reign of error' mayoralty and savage his opponents.

I have never met a single human being who has ever opined that Michael Bloomberg should be President of the United States.

'Squelch rumors' . Yeah. OKaaayyyy.
