'Cut & run' Dems is GOP's theme

WASHINGTON - President Bush's playbook for the November elections urges GOP House and Senate candidates to emphasize to voters that it's the war, stupid.
Ignoring criticisms that Iraq is not going well, the middle class is not cashing in on a growing economy and gas prices are out of control, Bush is telling candidates, "When we see problems, we solve them. The Democrats are good talkers; we're good doers."

But at the urging of political wise man Karl Rove, Republicans are being foremost advised to paint Democrats as "cut and run" on Iraq.

...

Bush and Rove's campaign themes include:

Tax cuts: Make them permanent and prosperity will follow.

Seal the border: A guest worker program isn't amnesty.

Medicare: Democrats talk about it; the GOP reformed it.

Energy: It's time to just say no to Mideast oil.

God and family: Increase faith-based programs and confirm conservative judges who promote family values.

Blame the media: They hate us anyway, and now their leaks are damaging national security.

6. How to counter this crapola
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 09:45 AM by klook
Tax cuts: Make them fair and prosperity will follow. Tax cuts that favor the mega-wealthy don't help middle-class families.

Seal the border: Our ports are not secure, thanks to Dubai Dubya.

Medicare: Democrats saved it; the GOP is trying to destroy it.

Energy: It's time to just say no to Mideast oil. So let's actively support alternative energy sources, let's mandate that vehicles consume less fuel, and let's stop buddying-up to oil sheikhs (photo of Bush holding hands with one of his turbaned petro-sweeties).

God and family: Let's honor the vision of the founders and keep government from meddling in church and family matters.

Blame the media: They hate us anyway, and now their lack of oversight is damaging national security.

And on the "cut and run" meme - most Americans can understand the concept of "good money after bad." At this point, it's clear that the invasion of Iraq was a huge mistake. To continue slogging it out in a baseless, unproductive, expensive war is to throw good money (American lives, military resources, etc.) after bad. Never forget: The majority of American voters are with the Democrats on Iraq.

Edited to add last paragraph about Iraq.

8. Why do Republicans give aid and comfort to Al Qaida?
Is it because they share the same anti-democratic totalitarian philosophy, or just because of the decades-long business partnership between the Bush and Bin Laden families? They need to be asked this constantly until we get some real answers!

Also, why did they "cut and run" from New Orleans? Is it because they're totally incompetent to protect the American people or because they just don't care?

9. It is a great line
You really have to give the Republicans credit. When it comes to sales and marketing, there is no better. They might just be quite successful with this new "brand" as their propaganda talents are sadly unmatched by the Democrats.

I will not be the least bit surprised if the Democrats are once again trounced in the November elections. They are totally inept at responding to this nonsense. You know the old tell a lie enough times and it becomes truth. It worked beautifully against Kerry and it will work again. The American people eat this crap up.

20. It means to "cut" the anchor cable
And then "run" --- i.e. sail downwind. However, I don't think it means retreat, but rather to give oneself maneuverability for battle or to escape from an overwheliming situation.

From http://thegallopingbeaver.blogspot.com/2006/03/sunday-history-blogging-naval-variant_26.html

The term, to cut and run in its naval vernacular describes a tactic. Typically, the captain of a ship would order the anchor cable cut and sails made. The anchor cable was made of hemp and with some perseverence and a relatively sharp axe, could be severed. With enough sail made, a ship would run out of her anchorage having avoided some of the longer preparations required for getting underway.

The term was never derogatory when used in naval service. It simply referred to the speed at which a ship could sail in an urgent situation. In an 1801 action between a British squadron and French and Spanish squadrons at the Gut of Gibraltar, the ships were ordered to cut and run, turning toward and engaging the enemy. When ships did cut and run as a means of escape it usually meant they were outgunned and escape provided the ability to return and fight another day.

If one did not "cut and run" when the situation called for it, one's ship would be sunk.

Lie and Die is catchy. Bush and his cronies lied to get us into the war and thousands have died because of those lies. If only that term would catch on...

Or how about Lie, Cheat and Steal? They are, after all, the Corrupt Party.

22. ""When we see problems, we solve them."
Bull-fukkin-shit. When "conservatives" see a prolem, they first try to figure out a way to exploit it to advance their real agenda. If they can't figure out any way to do that, then they invent reasons why it's not really a problem. Anyone who looks to "conservatives" to solve any problems is a fool.

28. Um, don't look now, but:
"Bush plays down Iraq troop withdrawal reports"

BAGHDAD, Iraq - President Bush on Monday brushed aside reports that the United States is planning sharp troop withdrawals from Iraq beginning in September. Such a decision will be made by the new Iraqi government and based upon recommendations from the top U.S. general there, Bush said.

Even so, his spokesman said that a reduction of two combat brigades was among the options being considered. Conditions on the ground will help shape the recommendation from Gen. George W. Casey, Bush told reporters.

The corporate media is gonna have to turn on a dime on this one. The new Iraqi PM (puppet?) has announced a timetable and troop withdrawals, and so has General Casey?

They need a new meme....oh yeah, its gonna be VICTORY IN IRAQ, as they bring a few troops home before November and then afer the elections....well, you know the rest of the story.

(This is disingenuous and jingoistic, but bear with me)

WWI- Wilson got the job done
WWII- FDR and the Democrats won it while Republicans complained(that's 100% fact actually)
Korean War- Truman and Democrats stayed the course, Republicans negotiated(the right thing to do, but still)
Vietnam War- Nixon cut and ran(right thing again)
Iranian Crisis- Reagan later on sold arms to the vile Iranian regime
Beirut- Reagan cut and ran
Iraq 1991- Bush didn't finish the job and cut and ran while the Shiites rebelled
