Former Ugandan dictator in coma: report (Idi Amin)
Idi Amin, whose 1971 to 1979 reign in Uganda was one of the bloodiest in Africa's modern history, is in a coma and on a life support system in Saudi Arabia, one of his wives said.

"They have told me he is in coma and on a life support machine - we are still waiting for more information from there," Madina Amin said.

By "they", Madina was referring to Amin's entourage in Saudi Arabia, where Idi Amin, a Muslim now in his eighties, has lived in obscurity for more than 10 years.

"We have contacted the Government to ask that if he dies his body can be brought back home for a decent burial," she said, adding her husband had suffered from hypertension for some time and fallen into the coma on Friday local time.

1. A decent Burial ...
Sure, he deserves that. This is the man who is responsible for some 400,000 deaths.

This is the man who, after taking power in a bloody coup gathered up the generals who opposed him and had them decapitated. then had their heads placed around a table and proceeded to berate them as he ate their body parts.

"'I am leading a quiet life and committed to my religion, Islam, and Allah. I don't have problems with anyone,' Amin told the newspaper's reporter in his luxury home in Jeddah."

The fact that this piece of filth was allowed to live out his live in luxury is an atrocity in and of itself.

On a slightly humorous note, I have also heard that once, during an interview, Amin accused the English of planning a naval invasion of Uganda. When it was pointed out that Uganda was a landlocked country he responded that it just proved how stupid the English were.

So, now that this monster is finally ready to die, only one question remains:

Idi Amin: Better or worse than Lieberman?

(I'm joking, of course, but I fear that some on DU will give this question serious thought).

7. actually, there was such a discussion during the Israeli-Entebbe raid
...the Israelis looked at the possibility of an attack on the airport from Lake Victoria - commandos in fast inflatables...

Considering the size of Lake Victoria and that Entebbe and the airport itself are right on the Lake, and that Kampala is accessible from several directions along the Lake...

2. If he sees the tunnel and the light, we are definately in hell.
One of my favorite paraphrases of the Buddha, 'the one promise God always keeps is Thou Shalt Suffer', leads me to the possibility that we are in hell. That's if you buy the concept of heaven and hell within a continuum. I don't but it is worth contemplating because so many do.

Anyway, say good night Idi.

Why does it always come back to Saudi Arabia (rhetorical question)?

9. Why Saudi Arabia ?
I VERY vaguely seem to recall the Brits worked out the deal finding him a refuge in order to expedite his removal from Uganda.
