Justices Tacitly Backed Use of Guantánamo, Bush Says
In his most detailed comments to date on the Supreme Court's rejection of his decision to put detainees on trial before military commissions, President Bush said Friday that the court had tacitly approved his use of the detention center at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

"It didn't say we couldn't have done — couldn't have made that decision, see?" Mr. Bush said at a news conference in Chicago. "They were silent on whether or not Guantánamo — whether or not we should have used Guantánamo. In other words, they accepted the use of Guantánamo, the decision I made."

Mr. Bush's remarks put a favorable spin on a ruling that has been widely interpreted as a rebuke of the administration's policies in the war on terror. The court, ruled broadly last week in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld that military commissions were unauthorized by statute and violated international law.

1. NOT the issue, George
Beginning of next paragraph:

"The question of whether Mr. Bush had properly used Guantánamo Bay to house detainees was not at issue in the case."

The evil POS just can't resist sifting for a morsel of a rationalization, can he?

14. But Barney is EVIL
I have no problem with Barney being incarcerated for 154 years. No hearings, just keep that purple beast hidden from view, and I'll be a happy parent.

5. It's embarassing reading this attempt to steal respectability.
At some point he's going to have to stay drunk around the clock to be able to live with his record.

6. Printed Out
Somehow he always seems more inarticulate when his efforts at communication are printed out. He sounds so childish. This one sounds like a little kid whining to his mother, "You didn't tell me not to do it! So that means I can, see?"

How long, oh lord, how long?

7. "In other words"
He thinks he's so much smarter than his audience that he has to restate his point another way so they'll get it. What an ass. I hate this verbal pat on the back he does nearly every time he speaks. He treats his audience as though their IQs are just as low as his and it makes me nuts.
Why doesn't someone on his staff with a functioning brain realize that if you have to say "in other words" frequently then your communication skills suck and get him to stop this shit?!

:grr:

9. Justices Tacitly Backed Use of Guantánamo, Bush Says
Uh, ... there is no one left on his staff with a functioning brain. Those with functioning brains have all been found to be intolerable 'Lefties' with the insufferable habit of, on occasion, accidentally letting a morsel of truth slip out. Now, if they had only had sufficient faith to have believed ... :puke:

10. What's next is the tacit approval of gay marriage, stem cell harvesting
Logic can have unintended but beneficial consequences when consistently applied following the rules of logic. I mean, if it hasn't yet been addressed and forbidden by the Supremes, it's tacitly approved of - isn't it? This would make the entire debate moot until the Supremes address the issue.
