Democrats Rip GOP on Social Security Plan
The Republican plan to privatize Social Security could cause huge debt for decades, a Democratic candidate seeking a House seat in Iowa, a state with a high concentration of elderly residents, said Saturday.

"If the Republican plan is allowed to pass, future generations both here and across the country will be saddled with decades of debt and no guaranteed retirement security," Bruce Braley said in the Democrats' weekly radio address.

Braley, 48, a lawyer from Waterloo, faces Republican Mike Whalen in the contest to fill the seat being vacated by Republican Rep. Jim Nussle, who is running for governor. The race is considered one of the more competitive in the country.

Braley said Social Security is under attack, with President Bush and congressional Republicans making privatization a top priority in 2007. He also accused the Bush administration of "plundering the Social Security trust fund while giving billions away to special interests, like big oil."

2. What The Hey Are Our Taxes For???
We pay taxes so our "gov't" can take care of the poor, the sick, the vets, the elderly. They take the money without a problem. They just have a huge problem wanted to give the money back to the citizens. They want it for THEIR projects,THEIR pockets,THEIR pals. There is no WE after they get our $$$$.

3. Very good, I was hoping Democrats would remind us of this issue
If we don't get control of at least one house of Congress this year, stick a fork in Social Security as we know it because it's done. Junior and his Bush league lapdogs plan to gut the program next year, just as soon as the midterms are over.

4. It's about time Dems started talking about the privitization plan!
That's a winning issue for us, for sure!

Bush says he wants to privitize SS in 2007, he said so! Dems should be running against that, not on the minimum wage and college loans!

5. It's an unecessary, irresponsible
rich-get-richer scheme. Remove the salary cap and roll back the tax cuts instead!
