Cheney says no deadline for troop withdrawal

Vice President Dick Cheney offered a spirited defense of the Bush Administration's Iraq policy during a speech today to more than 500 service men and women at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township.

"Decisions on troop levels will be made by the president, not by some artificial timeline set by politicians in Washington," Cheney said.
He defended the National Security Administation's use of telephone surveillance, calling it "a carefully limited and fully constitutional tool in the global war on terror."

"We will use all the tools at our command for the disruption and defeat of the terrorists," he said.

1. These guys are terrorists. Are they going to defeat themselves?

14. Strangely,
some article I saw yesterday predicted a return-home of 101st Airborne (numbering in tens of thousands) by SEPTEMBER!

Must be one of those loose-scoring games. As in golf there are "mulligans."

Personally, I don't trust ANYBODY'S numbers, whatever their party or stated allegiance...predictions are only predictions. And in election times, with the stakes being what they are, pols of EVERY stripe will say just about any outlandish thing you can imagine to try to mitigate their other sins. I mean really, aren't they all saying that they're fighting for US?? Really difficult for me to believe that old saw after these past 3 decades of watching The Game. Some are definitely not in our corner, and are being disengenuous at best. Sadly there is not a Party monopoly on this...it takes all kind.

IOW...I say: "Don't tell me. SHOW me!"

(don't let the numbers game spin you around and force your (our!) attention from the real stuff. As if I had to tell ya! Not meaning to sound off on you Double T, just that your reply made me remember the above prediction that I had heard flung-for-votes recently.)

3. Loony Tunes
What are we going to do - stay in Iraq forever? We should at least think of certain landmarks where we can say, "OK. x has been accomplished in Iraq. Therefore, we can withdraw y troops".

8. This from the not so shadowy commander in chief
Pretty funny. If you're a Republican Fundamentalist who voted for Bush, you really got Cheney with the not so Fundamentalist lesbian daughter. Real rocket science.
