White House Credits Tax Cuts In Deficit Figures

(AP) WASHINGTON The White House Tuesday touted new deficit figures showing considerable improvement upon earlier administration predictions, trumpeting the news as a validation of President Bush's pro-growth tax cuts.

The deficit will for budget year ending Sept. 30 will register $296 billion under a new White House estimate released Tuesday. That's much better than the $423 billion that Bush predicted in February and a slight improvement over 2005.

A surge in taxes paid by corporations and the wealthy is largely responsible for the deficit drop.

Bush himself was to trumpet the good news, attributing the improvement to tax cuts he pushed in 2001 and 2003 and his clampdown on domestic agencies funded by Congress.

2. Their "predictions" were deliberately inflated
so that when the actual numbers turned out to be only disastrous instead of catastophic, they cuold claim "victory". They do this with the emplyoment numbers EVERY FUCKING MONTH.

7. Actually, $296 billion MORE in debt
that's not the total, just how much we've added to the tab so-far this year.

8. I hope he gives the tax cuts credit for the deficit we have.
You create a problem than do something and say what you are doing is resolving the problem that was created by you in the first place and the ditto heads across the nation accept it as truth.

11. Meanwhile, back in the real world
Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 09:01 AM by Warpy
I tuned in to get the weather this morning and was greeted by some newswonk taking about how great the foreclosure market is now, how you can go out and pick up a foreclosed house for a song. She chirped about how you can go up to these houses, bang on the door, and ask the people who are losing their home if you can inspect it.

Yeah, right, I know how well I'd receive that.

The parting shot was that 40% of home mortgages out there are ARMs and that a third of these will see those interest rates jump this year, so the the foreclosure market is a happenin' place for home buyers.

Jaysis.

This is what Bush's tax cuts have really done, forced interest rates up and people out of their homes.

12. I credit it to the fact that we have liars telling us what the amounts are
They just make it up to suit their agenda

Now, it seems the agenda is, hey those rich folks and the war didn't hit us as hard as we first thought. But we gotta do more... enter cuts in programs that really do help but have pissed off the rich since FDR's day.

Just figured out why Congress has not been able to pound out a budget. Their 'leaders' had to hold it up until this big PR blitz for 'cutting the deficit' which will boil down to cutting bigger holes in what's left of the safety net and programs which actually improve the lives of average Americans all over the nation.

And I look for cuts worded in such a way that no matter how DEMS vote, parts will be taken out of context and used against them in Nov.

16. One hundred thousand dollars a second
that is what a three hundred billion dollar deficit equate to. That is how much over and above what our tax revenues are. One Hundred Thousand Dollars a SECOND We are spending a hundred thousand dollars a minute on Iraq alone and over a half million a minute on Interest on our debt. Sure are fiscally responsible aren't they?

23. Here's my analogy:
Suppose some arrogant guy who resembled a chimp took a huge dump on your front porch. Instead of cleaning it up right away, he comes back the next day, and poops some more. Every day, he's crapping on your front steps, until there's a mountain of dung.

Then one day, to your great surprise, the chimpy-looking guy takes a teaspoon and flings away a scoop of his mountain of poop.

The pile of shit is smaller now, aren't you happy?!!

I feel like I'm watching a shell game. They hide the truth under one of three lies and constantly move it around so it never comes out.
