Democratic senators say Iraq is close to civil war (Biden and Reed)
CAPITOL HILL (AP) Democratic Senators Joseph Biden of Delaware and Jack Reed of Rhode Island say the sectarian violence in Iraq is reaching a critical phase.

Biden, who has visited Iraq seven times, says Baghdad is "a city in tatters." The ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee cites Sunday's killings of some 40 Sunni Arabs by Shiite gunmen "in broad daylight" as an indication of what he calls "a nascent civil war."

Reed, just back from his eighth visit to Iraq, says the Iraqi leadership and U-S forces need to address the problems with the country's emerging government, shattered economy and ruined infrastructure in order to prevent the violence from spiraling into an all-out conflict.

The Rhode Island Democrat, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, says incidents involving U-S troops, including the rape and murder charges against four soldiers, play into the hands of the insurgency. He says such episodes become "grist for the propaganda mill."

Senator Jack Reed, D-R.I., Senate Armed Services Committee member, in news conference Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, just back from Iraq, says the U.S. doesn't have a plan for Iraq.

1. The civil war in Iraq has already started
The only thing lacking is a formal declaration from one side or the other. The killings are well on their way.

I must disagree with Senator Reed that we don't have a plan. The neocon plan designed to sate the base is very simple:

More Americans must be slaughtered in Iraq tomorrow so those who were slaughtered in Iraq yesterday were not slaughtered in Vain. Obviously sexual fantasies for trash chickenhawks who wave the flag for no apparent reason.

24. Murtha & Kerry have been saying it since they went to Iraq last September
If Biden wasn't so far bent on being the tough Dem on paper he would have listened to them.

27. I know, and I am also annoyed that the party has decided to make
mild mannered Reed the lead on this. Even Levin is better that Reed at getting our point across. Reed may know what he is talking about- even though he is lagging behind, but he doesn't have the presence. He blends into the background. And, what the f*ck was Biden there for?

3. visited Baghdad...
They don't 'visit' Baghdad. They visit a tiny part of it called GREEN ZONE. Let these elected officials take a walk to a local market or hospital... Especially those saying things are getting better.

4. Well. HOW FUCKING NICE OF THEM TO SORT OF .. NOTICE
It is already going on, dumb shits. Oh, wait. Will I be reprimanded for pointing out that the Democrats in office don't seem to have a CLUE as to WTF is going on in Iraq?

Maybe they should cut down on the Day Spa activities. Pedicures can soooo get in the way of Current Affairs...

5. and how long have they been saying this..when do they actually say
what reporters there have been saying ..that Iraq * is * a civil war...when do they grow the balls to say it??

how many of our kids have to die there before they fucking say ..it is a civil war...

if the dems don't have the balls to say it ..who will??

i personally am sick of biden and all his pandering bullshit..say it joe..or don't say a damn thing..because there is no difference from what he is saying ..or saying nothing at all!

joe has been saying for over a year..Iraq is almost a civil war..what constitutes a damn civil war..people from the same country killing each other..thats a damn civil war!

and our kids are trapped among it..

enough of the rhetoric dems..say it or get the fuck out of the way and let others say it and mean it..you are not protecting our troops by all the bullshit..

Edited on Tue Jul-11-06 02:57 PM by leftchick
into the Red Zone they would know Iraq is in a Civil war with our troops in the middle. But who could have predicted that? :sarcasm: And what fucking Senators would have listened? NOT these two.

They need to be forced to read Juan Cole and icasualties DAILY, then perhaps they will get a clue.

Over 55 Killed, Including 25 in Sadr City Bombings
Iraq to Ask UN to Withdrew US Troop Immunity

Guerrillas detonated two huge car bombs in a Shiite neighborhood on Monday, killing 25 and wounding 41. The guerrillas set both off in the Talbiyah district of Sadr City, a stronghold of the Sadr Movement of Muqtada al-Sadr. Sunni Arabs accuse a Sadrist militia of having massacred 42 Sunnis in the al-Jihad district on Sunday.

Guerrillas set off two other bombs in the capital, as well. A bomb exploded outside a restaurant, killing 6 and wounding 28. A roadside bomb killed 5 policemen. Gunmen also killed two bodyguards of a judge.

Gunmen ambushed a bus in the Sunni Arab district of Amiriyah in the capital, killing 7 .

That is 44 dead in the capital alone.

The Aljazeera report on the violence in the capital was particularly graphic and touching on Monday evening. You watched it and it was hard to see how this thing comes back together any time soon. You watched it and your heart broke.

CNN's report was less graphic but no less depressing. Scroll down or keyword search to "watch how sectarian killings"

There were also bombings in Kirkuk, Hilla and Baquba. In Baquba, a member of the Diyala governing council was assassinated. The bombing at a Patriotic Union of Kurdistan party office killed 5 and wounded 12. With bodies found in the river, and assassinations, the death toll for Monday in civil war violence was certainly more than 55.

7. The Democratic Party and its figureheads are just so pathetic.
With yo-yos like Biden and Reed speaking for the Democratic Party, a pretty compelling case can be made that it (the DP) does not deserve to govern.

They DO NOT VISIT IRAQ. They visit our own little Fort Apache in Baghdad (the Green Zone).

Brings to mind one of my favorite jokes:

Q: What were Custer's last words?

A: "Where the fuck did all those Indians come from?"
