Merry Christmas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Sprint Corp. will lay off 2,000 workers, or nearly 3 percent of its work force, by the end of the year as part of an effort to cut operating expenses over the next three years.

Sprint said Monday the job cuts will involve both its wireline and wireless divisions. It employs about 70,000 people overall.

The cuts are part of the Overland Park, Kan., telecommunications firm's reorganization around two market segments: business and residential customers.

2. Wireline, Wireless, Broadband
Telecommunications is basically divided into three broad categories:

Wireline, this is the land and wire based telephone network with associated switches.

Wireless, this is the modern cellular network based on Radio Frequency technology and associated switches.

Broadband, this is the technology that underpins the Internet and is largely based on the wireline network.

Hope that helps.

11. Those layoff notices will eventually
show up as new unemployment claims. Bush tied himself to the "recovery" and will go overboard, when claims head back over 400K.

4. I'm dumping Sprint
because of their "outsourcing" jobs to India.

7. Outsourcing Question
Who of the telcos is NOT outsourcing? I want to dump Verizon, but I have no idea about who to switch to.

I have a feeling they are all outsourcing.

Later,
JM

9. Working Assets Is the Only Way to Go

For a liberal, the only Telecom carrier, for wireless and long distance, is Working Assets. They are outstanding!

Good rates - good service - and they sponsor call-ins and other political action events. (You can even get a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream for signing up!)

Here is the link:

Peace is the only answer....

6. Gotta keep those CEO salaries up!
Heavens forbid that Sprint should become "uncompetetive" in hiring the finest CEO Imperial Amerika has to offer to loot their coffers.
