Putin takes swipe at Cheney over criticisms
Russian president tells NBC that VP was on ‘an unsuccessful hunting shot’

NBC News and news services
Updated: 7:45 a.m. ET July 12, 2006

MOSCOW - President Vladimir Putin lashed out at Vice President Dick Cheney ahead of this weekend’s G-8 summit, calling his recent criticisms of Russia “an unsuccessful hunting shot,” according to a television interview being broadcast Wednesday.

The remark, from an interview with 'Today' show anchor Matt Lauer, referred to shotgun blast by Cheney on a hunting trip that accidentally wounded a companion.

Cheney, in a May speech in the ex-Soviet republic of Lithuania, accused Russia of cracking down on religious and political rights and of using its energy reserves as “tools of intimidation or blackmail.”

In response, Putin said, “I think the statements of your vice president of this sort are the same as an unsuccessful hunting shot. It’s pretty much the same.”

4. I think there is no question that Putin absolutely despises Bush
and is seriously pissed off that he even has to deal with such a moron. Which all came about after George referred to him publicly as pooty-putt. Talk about crass and a lack of understanding of diplomatic form.

5. How dare Pooty Poot insult Dick "Five Deferments" Cheney?
Edited on Wed Jul-12-06 07:40 AM by SpiralHawk
Cheney earned all his military deferments the hard way: in his own words, he had "other priorities"

It's not like he used anal cysts as an excuse to avoid service, like Rush Oxycontin Limbaugh, or Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity

Mann Coulter should tell the Godless Red Commies to lay off our Chickehawk Republicons

6. I have always said that Bush was underestimating Putin
Bush has put us in a position where out allies in Western Europe respect the current russian president far more the the american one. This is not good, and Putin, with his KGB backround is less than trustworthy.

That said, his comments about Cheny were hilarious.

10. Now....remember back when the shooting incident happened.
Remember Cheney, who went in to hiding? He finally had to come crawling out and face the music at Fox. The photos of him walking to the car said everything: he looked downcast, afraid.

Afraid of what? US public opinion? No....to get your answer, see the article.

Cheney became a fool after that incident. And he knew it.

15. Yes, and probably more to it than that...
It was a major fuck up. Not so much the act itself, but it was a stupid mistake that made his fragile world that much more vulnerable to attack. More people had to be bribed, threatened and strong-armed. More cards had to be placed on top of the house.

Smart people like Putin know what he's really about, and they will not let any opportunity go by without letting him know it.

16. That's as good as Putin's comment after the 2000 election...............
....that went something to the affect that in Russia there would be no such election problems since they have a one person-one vote system and then he went on to say, "....but who are we to advise the Americans on elections." I about fell out of my chair on that one and darn near spewed ice water all over my monitor just now. Putin can definitely deliver a well worded - well aimed dig.:applause:

Oh, for the days when our :pals: President (Clinton):hi: could walk, talk, and think all at the same time.:applause:
