Widow of missile-strike journalist to sue BushJul 12 2006

The British-based widow of an Arab journalist killed by a US missile strike in Iraq has filed a wrongful death claim for £16.6 million against the US Defence Department and President George Bush as the military commander in chief.

Hamdi Rifai, the lawyer for Dima Tahboub, who lives in Manchester, said the claim marked the first step towards filing a civil lawsuit that will name Bush, defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld and others over the death of her husband, Tareq Ayyoub, a Jordanian who worked for the pan-Arab Al-Jazeera satellite TV network.

Ayyoub was killed on April 8 2003 when a US missile destroyed the Baghdad headquarters of Al-Jazeera, which is based in Doha, Qatar. The US military said the missile had been aimed elsewhere and went off course, hitting the Al-Jazeera bureau in the Iraqi capital.

Rifai said grounds for the lawsuit would be that the military broke the Geneva Conventions requirement to protect non-combatant civilians in conflict.

Based on the grounds of her lawsuit, if she is successful (and I hope that she is) this will open bush*co up for thousands of lawsuits.

4. I saw Dima's speech in the documentary "Control Room"
It was very touching and caused many of the Western journlists even to cry. She talked about trying to find the truth, to continue to search for the truth and now to allow Tareq's death in vain.

And I'm glad she's suing right at the top at that bastard Bush.

5. Good. This happens right on the tail of the Supremes saying they've
gotta follow those "quaint" Geneva Conventions.
