World powers lose patience with Iran, threaten punishment (CNN)

We have no choice,' minister says

Wednesday, July 12, 2006; Posted: 1:39 p.m. EDT (17:39 GMT)
PARIS, France (AP) -- World powers agreed Wednesday to send Iran back to the U.N. Security Council for possible punishment, saying the country has given no sign it means to negotiate seriously over its disputed nuclear program.

The United States and other permanent members of the powerful U.N. body said Iran has had long enough to say whether it will meet the world's terms to open bargaining that would give Tehran economic and energy incentives in exchange for giving up suspicious activities.

"We have no choice but to return to the Security Council and continue the process suspended two months ago," French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said after talks in Paris with counterparts from the United States, Britain, Russia, China and Germany.

uh-oh. here we go again...

3. Didn't the Iranian government say that the fatwa against Rushdie was
"lifted" in 1998?

Why is a private foundation in Iran able to offer a money reward for the killing of Rushdie that is broadcast around the world without any legal action by the government of Iran? Has the Iranian government done anything to apologize for or compensate relatives of the murdered Japanese translator of Rushdie's book? How much has the Iranian government paid to compensate the security services in the U.K. that have protected Rushdie?

Is the Iranian government a bully?
Does the Iranian government accept responsibility for its actions?
Do you hate the Iranian government?

4. **PETITION AGAINST MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN**

It is with grave concern that I observe the growing threat of a new U.S. war--this time against the people of Iran.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

9. Too late...
Your dictator has already blamed Iran for the Lebanon kidnappings as well...

What were some of the dates that were kicking around for a possible invasion and attack? We close to any of them?

Ray McGovern was saying either July or August...

Eerie Bush quote:

"It's amazing that, when we're in a bilateral position or negotiating one-on-one, somehow the world ends up turning the tables on us. And I'm not going to put my country in that position," he said.
All Headline

The world? ...or maybe a certain country has tipped this table

5. I don't really see anything new here
But the timing is interesting. I think there will be some serious pre-election sabre rattling.

"Any real punishment or coercion at the Security Council is a long way off, but the group said it will seek an initial resolution requiring Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment. Debate could begin as soon as next week.

If Iran does not comply, the group said it would then seek harsher action. The group's short statement did not give any specifics, but it cited a section of the world body's charter that could open the door to economic or other sanctions.

Though Russia and China signed on to Wednesday's statement, the two traditional commercial partners of Iran have previously stated their opposition to imposing the toughest of sanctions on Tehran."

8. Which world powers?
Don't you just love these stupid announcements?

I'm willing to bet Russia and China, both with veto power, are not in the list of world powers cited above.

13. U.N. gets Iran incentive deal; prepares resolution
By Evelyn Leopold

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Major powers turned over to the 15-nation U.N. Security Council on Thursday details of energy and economic incentives they offered to Iran if it suspends its nuclear ambitions and stops uranium enrichment.

The three-page incentive package, which had not previously been published in full, includes a pledge to "actively support" the building of new light water power reactors in Iran ...

However, China's U.N. ambassador, Wang Guangya, hesitated in committing Beijing to a mandatory resolution, despite agreements in Paris. He said any text had to be considered carefully ...

that it had previously occupied for 19 years, wouldn't you?

16. Punish Iran and not punish Israel for her attack on Lebanon?
Those "world powers" have no power, no influence, and no credibility left. The US is bogged down in Iraq, and is in no condition to start another war.

How I wish Big Dog were still in the White House... this shit would have never gotten this bad, and Baathist Iraq would still be a deterrent to Shia Iran.
