TRENTON, July 12 — Senator Robert Menendez continues to outpace his opponent in raising money in the race for his United States Senate seat, and he now has a better than 3-to-1 advantage in overall resources, according to campaign data released on Wednesday.
From April 1 to June 30, Mr. Menendez, a Democrat, raised $2.6 million and now has a total of $7.4 million, according to the data released by his campaign. His Republican opponent, State Senator Thomas H. Kean Jr., raised $1.1 million during the same period, and now has $2.25 million on hand, according to the data released by Mr. Kean’s campaign officials.
Moreover, Mr. Menendez raised the same amount as he did in the previous quarter, while Mr. Kean actually raised $500,000 less during the same quarter — prompting Democrats to argue that Mr. Kean had lost momentum.
“His fund-raising performance is a metaphor for the rest of his campaign: sluggish and not up to speed,” Phil Singer, a spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said of Mr. Kean’s efforts.
