Iraq attacks kill local government members, police officers

BAGHDAD, Iraq Attacks on local governments and police officers are pushing the sectarian death toll higher in Iraq.

The bodies of four council members have been pulled from the rubble after a village council headquarters northeast of Baghdad was hit by a bicycle bomb. South of Baghdad, authorities say a member of a provincial council was also gunned down.

In the capital a policeman is reported killed after a skirmish with purported Shiite militiamen who were trying to intimidate Sunnis to leave their neighborhood.

Gunmen at a fake checkpoint killed four policemen from Karbala who were in Baghdad for a training course. In Kirkuk, a car bomb hit a police patrol and killed four people, including a child. And a policeman wearing civilian clothes was gunned down while getting his car fixed in Mosul.

3. Happens all the time in Detroit, DC, and Houston.
Just ask any republican - they'll tell you.

No big deal. Everything is great in Iraq and I'm sure they will build a statue to GW Bush, The Wise Liberator, someday.

4. I think we can kiss the "government" goodbye.
The vietnamization iraqification of the war has failed.

The bit with the militamen in Baghdad is hard to figure out. There was a story a while back about a mixed "iraqi" - "coalition" force invading Sadr City and picking a fight, then we have these fellows running amok in Sunni areas, blowing things up across from the Green Zone, and meanwhile Moqtada is calling for calm. You get the feeling things are out of control ...
