Christian group to advocate more support for Israel

More than 3,000 pro-Israel evangelical Christians will be in town next week for a "Washington/Israel summit" to push the Bush administration toward stronger support for the Jewish state.

Starting with a banquet July 18 at the Hilton Washington and visits to Capitol Hill the next morning, the inaugural gathering of Christians United for Israel (CUFI) will showcase a deeper cooperation between evangelical Christians and Jews in the face of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's suggestion in October, often reiterated since, that Israel "be wiped off the map."

Organizers say Israeli Ambassador Daniel Ayalon, retired Israeli defense chief Lt. Gen. Moshe Yaalon and Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman -- all of whom are Jewish -- will be at the dinner. Several members of Congress also are scheduled to attend, including Republican Sens. Sam Brownback of Kansas and Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, both Catholics. Leading evangelicals that have confirmed their invitations include the Rev. Jerry Falwell and Gary Bauer.

Their host will be Texas evangelist the Rev. John C. Hagee, pastor of the 18,000-member Cornerstone Church in San Antonio and author of "Jerusalem Countdown," a 2006 book about a nuclear-armed Iran.
"There's a new Hitler in the Middle East," Mr. Hagee said in an interview. "He's talking about killing Jews. He will have the ability to do so with nuclear weapons.

1. We should drop all 3,000 of them in the middle of Fallujah
I hate them all! They are nothing but Nazis in Crusader uniforms. I don't care about their support for Israel, for it is based on their Apocalyptic views in which Israel is needed for the return of Jesus, which will then be followed by the destruction of Judaism and the murder of all Jews that don't convert.

31. You mean this morally superior Hagee?
"On August 26, 1960, Hagee married Martha E Hagee. They subsequently had two children. In October of 1966 Hagee founded Trinity Church in San Antonio. He resigned in May 1975 and in a letter to the church, admitted immorality with his personal secretary, which became part of the court records in a subsequent custody battle. On September 12, 1975, Hagee filed for divorce from his first wife Martha, who was granted custody of their two children On August 26, 1960, Hagee married Martha E Hagee. They subsequently had two children, Christopher and Tish before divorcing on the 12th of September 1975. In October of 1966 Hagee founded Trinity Church in San Antonio. He resigned in May 1975."

It will come back to bite you just as Israel's early support for Hamas, as a counter to the PLO, came back to bite her.

8. You've got that right
Sidling up to the RW fundies is going to bite them in the ass one day soon.

The Israelis may be snickering at them now and welcoming their money and support, but when you look at why the fundies are doing so, it should make your hair stand on end.

20. That of course is the whole point of Israel:
a modern Jewish homeland on the site of the ancient Jewish homeland, a permanent refuge for all Jews who need refuge, a Jewish state that can defend itself forever.

Unfortunately, the previous inhabitants of the land never consented to the large-scale immigration of Jewish refugees nor the founding of the Jewish state.

7. They are rather scary
in that they are very uninformed. I was getting dental work done, and I noticed the tech had a pin with an American and Israeli flag on it. I said, "Shalom. Shema Israel Adonai Elohenu Adonai A Hud" (spelling probably wrong, but it's Hebrew-Peace and the phrase 'Hear Oh Israel, The Lord is One'). She had NO CLUE what I had said. When I explained, she said her pastor had told her that we must all support Israel and that the pastor was over there leading tours right now. She had no clue that there was even violence going on there, and said she hoped to go there soon.

22. Amazing!
It shows the blind support is all about. I see it both ways, sadly.

BTW...good job on the transliteration! The last word is more often written, echad, other than that it was great! But, then again, I know you, so I am not at all surprised!

10. I really wish our government would be a little more neutral in this matter
I support Israel's right to exist. I also support their neighbors' rights to exist.

It's interesting-in the Detroit area suburbs, jews and people of middle eastern descent coexist well. No one is killing each other, there are organizations where both get together and talk about what is going on in Israel. They get together to help prevent problems among their young people in the public schools, too. It's amazing that in a country that neither considers to be theirs exclusively(given to them by God or Allah), everyone can get along.

>>I hope the nation of Israel tells them to take their money and xtians and drop dead!<<

Evangelical Christians are considered important allies of Israel. Let's just say that each side has its ways in which to exploit the other.

Evangelical Christians are an important force within the US to pressure the US government to offer unconditional support to Israel.

Evangelical Christians are ready to send American soldiers to die in Middle Eastern war in order to preserve Israel, and Israel will not refuse them.

You might find this statement by ADL regarding the role of evangelicals in regards to Israel -- it addresses the point you raise, but argues otherwise.
http://www.adl.org/Israel/evangelical.asp

(Quick walk down memory lane: Evangelical Christians were horrified that Israel withdrew from Gaza last year. They said America could expect divine wrath for going against God's commands to protect Israel. When Hurricane Katrina hit, it was said to be God's judgement on America for not stopping Israeli withdrawl from Gaza. I guess God is not a single-issue divine wrath send-downer -- it's not just gays that bug Him.)

21. In Evangelical Christianity, God is an angry white guy in a pick up
that loves guns, hates gays, and wants women in the kitchen.

As the Bible said in its original version: Man made God into his own image!

These folks WANT a massive regional war.

We are being drawn into a massive regional war -- it appears that a massive regional war has been the Bush administration's goal all along.

It's madness -- nothing good will come out of this. People can scarcely imagine the horrors that lie ahead.

Scary Heretic. He's quite a sight to see...he holds quite the sway with his flock. What he lacks in substance he makes up for in volume. Hysteric hyperbole, thy name is Hagee.

These guys are dangerous to national security, I say this in all truthful sincerity.

23. Not all fundies are dispensationalists
Dispensationalists believe (all evidence to the contrary) that Christianity is a reformation of and restoration of Judaism to its "true roots". They see modern practicing Jews co-religionists (after a fashion), who will obviously convert once Christ returns to establish the 1000-year kingdom. This is essentially the same thing Luther believed; that Jews would convert once they saw the inherent truth of reformed Christianity. When they didn't, he went off the deep end; I suspect the Pat Robertsons of the world will too.

26. Those fuckers just want to hasten the end of the world..
That's their ONLY reason for supporting Israel. Sick isn't it? Sorta like fattening up a calf so you can have veal steaks. They only want the Israelis to have control of the area for their stupid ass end times scenario.. and like the fatted calf, they neglect to tell the Jewish folks that if they don't convert they'll be killed in a biblical firestorm in the second coming. What the fuck is wrong with those people??? I hate religion.

"Born April 12, 1940, in Baytown, Texas, to Rev. and Mrs. B. Hagee, John Hagee graduated from Trinity University with a B.S. in 1964. He was on a football scholarship and was on the Academic Dean's List. He also attended North Texas State University in 1966, where he received his Master's Degree. In 1989 he received his Honorary Doctorate from Oral Roberts University. His theological training came at Southwestern Bible Institute near Dallas where he was President of his class and a member of the College Concert Choir. In 2005 he received an Honorary Doctorate from Netanya Academic College in Israel. Hagee has served on the Oral Roberts University Board of Regents since 1989.

On August 26, 1960, Hagee married Martha E Hagee. They subsequently had two children. In October of 1966 Hagee founded Trinity Church in San Antonio. He resigned in May 1975 and in a letter to the church, admitted immorality with his personal secretary, which became part of the court records in a subsequent custody battle. On Mother's Day of 1975, Hagee founded The Church of Castle Hills. On April 12, 1976, Hagee married Diana M. Castro, a 24-year-old former congregant at Trinity Church. On October 4, 1987, the 5000 seat Cornerstone Church was dedicated. Dr. W. A. Criswell of Dallas anointed Hagee and Diana Castro Hagee before the congregation."

And I guess adultry can be forgiven and qualifies you to be an evangelical pastor unless you last name is "Clinton?" You can find more at Walkipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hagee
