Bush calls Middle East fighting 'pathetic'

STRALSUND, Germany, July 13 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush denounced the escalating violence in the Middle East Thursday calling it "a sad situation" and "pathetic."

Speaking to reporters in Stralsund, Germany, after a private meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel, Bush said Israel had every right to defend itself from attacks by Palestinian militants and Hezbollah attacks from Lebanon.

"It's a sad situation where -- when there is a very good chance for there to be a two-state solution enacted -- that is two states living side-by-side in peace -- it's really sad where people are willing to take innocent life in order to stop that progress. As a matter of fact, it's pathetic," he said.

19. Decided in the first Bush Cabinet meeting
Paul O'Neill wrote that in the first Cabinet meeting, that the US was no longer going to be the broker for peace between Israel and Palestine, but felt that Israel should be allowed predominate -- a piece of cake, given the fact of their overwhelming military might.

Bush just thinks its pathetic that Palestinians don't give up and give in to Israel. After all, it doesn't support his notion of how inevitably "shock and awe" will bring any nation to its knees, and frighten neighboring nations to even daring to protest or resist. What a miscalculation! They have ignored human nature -- which will fight to the end against even massive power unleashed against them.

I think the governments of Israel and the US WANT a major regional war. Some important factions therein seem to be trying to agitate for one, and who knows -- maybe they'll get it, and American youth will die for "democracy" in the Middle East, which is simply a code word for "Israel." If America was so solidly behind supporting Israel by any means necessary, why doesn't Bush just come out and say it? He can't, because they don't, but he's got to get his foot in the door, before they figure out what he's really trying to do, as was the case in the rush to was in Iraq.

22. Right, because this never happened before...
How exactly are Bush and Cheney responsible for this? I don't like them any better than anyone else here, but really - don't the nations who are at war bear the responsibility for their own actions?

25. Bush wants Israel to escalate to take attention away from Iraq
Think its a strange idea? Israeli's are saying it to:

"The Israeli government is more interested in using the situation to exert political pressure on the Palestinians, rather than trying to stop qassam rockets, which is not easy to do in a short time, and using only military power.

Most of the bombing is directed against civilians and Palestnian establishements, and not necessarily against those responsible for firing rockets.

In other words: The Qassams will not stop, becuase Israel is not doing anything to stop them.

It is also in the interest of the USA to ignite the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, and draw attention away from Iraq.

Conclusion: The Qassams will probably continue.
Adel Mazloum, Jerusalem, Israel"

It would motivate the base for the elections this November.

20. Ask rather, WHY has this administration done nothing to prevent this?
Because it is Bush's deliberate strategy and policy. In his first Cabinet meeting, he announced that he was breaking with the tradition of the US attempting to broker a peace, and was instead going to allow Israel to prevail.

This is not mere incompetence -- this is deliberate policy.

The war in Iraq is also pathetic. Started by a pathetic fool, and based on lies and information intentionally withheld in order to start the war.

THAT, Mr. Bush, is PATHETIC. Look in the mirror, you are the problem.

13. You think Big Dog would be vacationing in Germany at a time like this?
He would be on the phone trying to work out a solution to this crisis, a solution that must include the immediate return of the kidnapped Israeli soldiers and cease fire.

Instead we have Bush praying to Jesus, which accomplishes not a goddamned thing, and hosting a a barbeque for that conservative cow Merkel.

16. He does realize that one of the traditional roles of a "world leader" is
to lead the world, doesn't he? I mean, he's not a spectator in this. I realize he's not capable of doing any good anywhere, but the whole attitude of throwing his hands in the air and saying "meh" bothers me. That's the reaction your barber or bartender gives, not the Leader of the Formerly Free World.
