Blackwell Pushes Plan to Lease Turnpike, But Rode it For Free

COLUMBUS (AP) On a trip last week promoting the money-making potential of the Ohio Turnpike, gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell paid no tolls. The State Highway Patrol, which drove Blackwell on the two-city tour July 6, asked for and got permission to travel the road for free, Turnpike records show.

I think he's Blackwell's spokesperson in the Ohio SOS office, too. I wonder if they're working on the campaign during office hours -- and one way to find out would be to discover when AP got that comment from him (i.e. was it during working hours when taxpayers are paying his salary).

Do they do this for other gubernatorial candidates? Is Ted Strickland, Bob Fitrakis, and Bill Peirce also driven around by state patrol?
