Following day in which two Israelis were killed, some 100 injured in Katyusha attacks on northern communities, IAF attacks Hizbullah stronghold in southern suburb of Lebanese capital. "Night attack in Beirut: Israeli planes struck a bridge in the southern suburb of Beirut, a Hizbullah stronghold, and the fuel stores of the Jiyyeh power plant south of the city early on Friday, witnesses and security sources said.

The Lebanese Army responded with anti-aircraft fire. Residents heard at least three strikes but there was no immediate word on casualties. Israel Defense Forces officials confirmed that the army had struck targets in Beirut."

"Lebanese officials said Israeli aircraft dispersed thousands of leaflets above the Shiite-dominated areas of southern Beirut warning citizens to stay clear of Hizbullah offices and operatives.

"For your own safety and because of our desire not to harm any civilians who are not involved (with Hizbullah), you should refrain from staying in areas where Hizbullah is present and operating," said the Arabic-language leaflets, signed "The State of Israel".

I wonder where poor people in Lebanon go when they live near a Hizbollah stronghold and can't afford to move... :eyes:

2. Not good, not good at all
And people think our problems are the most serious thing in the world right now. Some folks need to take a step back and look at the hell others must endure.

4. Probably not.
There have been rumors of Hizbullah involvement in Iraq, but I haven't heard about anything like actual evidence that didn't point equally in several other directions. But it seems like a reasonable thing, given Syria's attitude, and Syria's patronage of the Party of Allah.

I'd expect them to have been giving it the good old college try, and either now have to funnel resources back to Lebanon, or at least have no additional resource to devote to Iraq.

6. Israeli warplanes hit Beirut suburb
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/07/13/mideast/index.html

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israeli warplanes early Friday bombed southern Beirut, home to the offices of Hezbollah and the group's leader, as the Israeli-Lebanese violence that has killed dozens of Lebanese civilians and 10 Israelis entered its third day.

Lebanese police said the planes hit the airport road, which crosses through the southern district considered a Hezbollah stronghold.

A Lebanese army official said bombs also hit two bridges in the southern suburbs of the capital and a stadium.

Earlier, Israel had dropped leaflets warning residents to stay away from the Hezbollah offices in southern Beirut, where Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah is thought to live.

Israeli planes also bombed the main highway between Beirut and the Syrian capital of Damascus.
