AP Poll: Most Americans Plan To Vote For Democrats (Bush Approval 36%)
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 05:32 AM by Mark E. Smith
WASHINGTON - Republicans are in jeopardy of losing their grip on Congress in November. With less than four months to the midterm elections, the latest Associated Press-Ipsos poll found that Americans by an almost 3 to 1 margin hold the GOP-controlled Congress in low regard and profess a desire to see Democrats wrest control after a dozen years of Republican rule.

Further complicating the GOP outlook to turn things around is a solid percentage of liberals, moderates and even conservatives who say they'll vote democratic. the party out of power also holds the edge among persuadable voters, a prospect that does not bode well for the Republicans.

The Ap-Ipsos poll of 1,000 adults conducted Monday through Wednesday found that President Bush has stopped his political free fall, with his approval rating of 36 percent basically unchanged from last month. Bush received slightly higher marks for his handling of the Iraq war and the fight against terrorism, weeks after his surprise trip to Baghdad and the killing of Iraqi terrorist Abu Masab al-Zarqawi in a U.S. airstrike last month.

But a Democratic takeover of either House or Senate would be disastrous for the president, leaving both his agenda for the last two years in office and chairmanship of investigative committees in the hands of the opposition party.

1. Do you suppose they will now see election fraud?
We can only hope that the same 3 to 1 margin takes to the streets when Repukes steal the next one.

26. The term "repuke"
I dunno, but that always seemed rather childish to me. People who use such words are no better than the idiots who use the terms "democraps" or whatever else their pea-brains come up with. Ehhhn, I'm no one minds here but I hope you don't actually speak like that when having real discussions or when you're outside the presence of your political peers.

2. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said
"Enough is Enough, Vote Democrat." Okay, it was just one bumper sticker but it was also a ray of hope in this little red state.

13. No, it'll be the more moderate Republican voters
that are too ashamed or disgusted that won't vote. We need as many of the independents and persuable republicans as possible.

The republicans are needing about 90% of their base to vote for them and hoping us Democrats vote in low numbers agian like we usually do in mid term elections

14. I was just wondering about the immigrant vote
will they try to sucker them in to vote for republicans? like they will promise them something and get the immigrant voters to vote for the republicans. Rove is a slick one you know, we all know he plays dirty, I hope he goes down hard.

16. That poll doesn't account for how unotived the american people are
I wouldn't be suprised if half of those polled don't even know congress is controlled by the GOP.

We need to do everything in our power to get these people to get out and vote.

19. My, my, identical numbers to the Fox poll
Yup, the fraud machine is going to be turned up full volume.

Could I suggest volunteering for the GOP campaign of your choice if you happen to live in states with Repuke leadership, such as Ohio and Florida and Texas, where theft is likely? I know it will be hard to pretend to be a Repuke, but they can't really defraud without at least whispers getting around in the various campaigns.

23. A national poll of 1000 people doesn't tell that much
If you do a poll of 1000 people in the Detroit area, you would get similar numbers. If you did that same poll in Grand Rapids, you'd get a very different, more pro-GOP result.

Nobody should think that this indicates some kind of Democratic sweep this fall. It doesn't consider individual congressional districts (How can it with only 1000 respondents?). The people may be disatisfied with the GOP, but the dems still have to offer something concrete and they need to make sure their voices are not drowned out by others.

Israel is doing what it's doing because religious fundies are in control of both sides. Not everything is connected to the US or even to the Chimp.

25. same formula will apply in 2006 as in 2000, 2002, 2004, it'll be close
a shit storm of pure-lie based, negative campaigning by repubs, bs issues, veiled appeals to closet white racism and supremacy and homophobia that dwells within even many here at DU, thus keeping many alienated-thus low turnout, combined with vote supression in various forms (see Palast 2003 and 2006) so they can make it reasonably close to mask the fraud they will undertake
these polls don't mean shit
