GOP OK'd wrong number for Republican primary; off by 30,000 votes
JAMIE KIZZIRE
Associated Press

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A typo by the Alabama Republican Party gave a civil appeals court candidate 30,000 extra votes in the June 6 primary in Tuscaloosa County, where fewer than 17,000 ballots were cast.

The error doesn't change the Place 3 runoff between Autauga County District Judge Phillip Wood and Terri Willingham Thomas, a district and juvenile court judge in Cullman County. However, it gave the front-runner Wood a far wider margin over Thomas than was officially reported by the party June 16.

The GOP has now reported the error to the Alabama Secretary of State's office, Tim Howe, executive director of the party, said Thursday.

"It was just a clerical error on our part," Howe said. "We're working right now to get the amended vote total to the secretary of state."

1. Hm. The mistakes always seem to go the Republicans' way.

Article doesn't say whether Wood is a Republican, but I wouldn't be surprised.

3. According to the headline
this was the Republican primary. So, I guess it's safe to say it only involved Repubs.

7. Just a clerical error?
Just a clerical error would be miss spelling a name on the ballot or incorrectly listing a precinct.
30,000 votes out of thin fucking air is fraud!

8. 300 is a clerical error
30,000 is just a really bad attempt at fraud.

9. Republicans practicing fraud
for the general election. Pretty bad when they do it amongst themselves.

11. By making a "mistake" now, they're laying the groundwork
for a cover story in case they get caught in November. "Nope--no fraud here. We make mistakes like this all the time, just like those 30,000 votes back in the primary."
