Germany: Security lapse during Bush visit
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 03:47 PM by kskiska
Greenpeace activists managed to place an anti-Bush poster at a church in Germany despite tight security, minutes before the U.S. president was due to arrive.

Three environmental activists from Greenpeace managed to sneak into the Nikolai Church, a 13th century building in the historic district of the city of Stralsund, where President George W. Bush was greeted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the start of his tour of the former communist German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Minutes before Bush arrived in a Helicopter, TV cameras showed how the activists, who were placed high up in the tower of the church, unveiled a yellow poster saying "No Nukes -- No War -- No Bush."

It remains unsure how the activists sneaked by the numerous U.S. and German security agents; anybody high up in the tower would likely have had a clear view (or shot) of the president below.

5. This is Greenpeace...and they usually think BIG...
I was kinda hoping they might have tried to deliver a dead whale to Bush* to barbeque along with his pig. Dead whales are kinda like hand grenades - you only need to get close, right?

Protesters Put Dead Whale at Japan Embassy

(01-19) 04:56 PST BERLIN, Germany (AP) --

Environmentalists positioned a dead whale in front of the Japanese Embassy in the German capital on Thursday to protest against Japanese whale-hunting.

Greenpeace activists brought the 55-foot fin whale on a truck from the northern German coast and parked it in front of the embassy beside banners saying: "End senseless whaling."

Stefanie Werner, a Greenpeace official, said Japanese officials had refused to meet with the protesters.

The truck returned the whale later Thursday to Germany's Baltic Sea coast, where experts from a marine museum were to perform an autopsy to see why it had perished there earlier this week.
