DAMASCUS (Reuters) - Syria will support its allies Hizbollah and Lebanon against Israel's attacks on the country, the ruling Baath Party said on Friday.

18. *Issues forth a demonic roar*
At last we shall reveal ourselves to the Jedi; at last we shall have our revenge.

I think that I can sum this up by quoting an unknown Orkish Warboss who said "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Seriously though, this is a bunch of crap, but as I have predicted.... this is par for the course.

5. Well then, we need to completely pull out of the region..
and let them have their regional war. It's none of our business.

I wonder if Bush shares that view? :eyes:

27. Many Arabic words don't have direct English translations
And get transliterated many different ways. Similar to how you see that Libyan dictator guy's name spelled differentely a million times.

15. It's no different from what the leader of the US has said and the US
has done at the UN. No surprise the US government is supporting Isreal and the Syrian government is supporting Lebanon.

It solves nothing, heightens tensions, kills innocents on both sides but, hey, the leaders are showing how "tough" they can be.

19. Syria has its reason to support Hizbollah
The support of Hezbollah by Syria goes back to the creation of Hizbollah during Israeli occupation of Lebanon. Hizbollah came about as defenders of Lebanon and as such won "the hearts and minds" of the Lebanese people. Hisbollah and Syria relationship also came about because the UN resolution that allowed Syria to deploy forces into Lebanon in order to mediate the civil war between the Muslims and Christians there at the time...and made Hizbollah be part of Lebanon's political process, and helped Lebanon rebuild itself and became once again a peaceful nation. Therefore, I do not think Syria’s support of Hizbollah is surprising, however our media made us believe that however gorilla-fights against Israel is a terrorist, hence the connection between Hezbollah and Syria is axis of terror.

21. Syria invaded Lebanon
The Syrian army gradually invaded Lebanon starting early seventies by forming and training Syrian-Palestinian guerrillas called Sai'qa. Then the civil war begin in Lebanon that led to its larger involvement, and by 1990 they completely occupied Lebanon and captured the capital.

They launched attacks on the Lebanese presidential palace and the Lebanese army headquarters. The Lebanese army and people could not resist the attack.

The Syrian army took over the area committing massacres against the surrendering Lebanese troops and civilians. Many people were killed.

The Syrian occupation appointed a Lebanese collaborator who formed a pro-Syrian government, while the prime minister of Lebanon exiled to France

The Syrians are NO HEROS OR LIBERATORS of the Lebanese. They never mediated they took sides

Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 07:54 PM by AlamoDemoc

20. It wasn't that long ago when SYRIA INVADED Lebanon
not very much protest from the world then

I hear very little protest about Darfur where the government and allied Arab militia, have been attacking villages, ransacking and torching homes, and killing and raping civilians.

Of course we could look at Chechnya, but then again it seems we want to selectively choose who we condemn and who we don't.

I am so glad that everything is black and white

28. There was a pretty big difference when that happened
Mostly that a civil war was going on. Of course Syria did overstay their welcome, but when they were forced to leave a year ago, you did hear about it.

And you've been living in a cave if you've heard little about Darfur.
