AP Interview: Lieberman suspects Iran is behind Hezbollah actions

Associated Press

July 14, 2006

HARTFORD, Conn. -- U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman said Friday that he suspects Iran is behind the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah guerillas, an act that triggered retaliatory attacks by Israel and three days of deadly violence in the Middle East this week.

Lieberman, D-Conn., said he believes Iran, which backs Hezbollah, is attempting to make a political statement to the world.

"I will raise the question of whether Iran ... is not provoking this crisis for the purpose of not quite distracting us, but flexing their terrorist muscles as the world begins to pressure them to stop their nuclear weapons development," Lieberman told The Associated Press.

He said Syria, which also has ties to Hezbollah, may also be involved.

(snip)

"The Israelis are the most direct victims of the terrorist attacks, but another victim is Lebanon," he said.

(snip)

"Israel has a right to defend itself, so they have a traditional policy which is similar to ours," he said. "We're not going to sit back when our people or soldiers are taken as hostages. We're going to try to get them back."

3. Not really a state secret here Joe - Iran's former (now dead) ass-o-hola
Kola-maniac was the "supreme leader" who ok'd Iran bankrolling Hezbollah. Iran still provides funding and "guidance".

Should this be a "DUH"?

7. The war criminal Holy Joe called for war against Iraq back in 2001
We should not listen to what he has to say about Iran!

As early as December 2001 Lieberman signed a letter to President Bush asking him to make Saddam Hussein's Iraq our next stop in the war against terrorism.

10. Lieberman is full of crap
"Lieberman, D-Conn., said he believes Iran, which backs Hezbollah, is attempting to make a political statement to the world."

Iran has already been making a political statement to the world by not cowering to Bush over the nuclear issue.

Say, didn't Bush's second deadline to Iran pass with nary a word from the administration?
