Bush, in a Shift, May Speak at N.A.A.C.P. Convention
Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 06:06 AM by WePurrsevere
After not appearing before the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People for five years, President Bush has tentatively agreed to speak to the group on Wednesday in what aides said was the latest White House effort to improve relations with African-American leaders.

The decision to accept the invitation was made after lobbying by N.A.A.C.P. officials and in a week when conservative House Republicans forced a delay in the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act. '

Even though the House ultimately passed the reauthorization, the delay was criticized by civil rights leaders and stirred concern among some Republicans over reactions.

<snip>

Last year, Ken Mehlman, the Republican National Committee chairman, attended the group’s convention after Mr. Bush declined to go. Mr. Mehlman used the forum to apologize for Republicans’ using racially polarizing politics for political gain. “I am here today as the Republican chairman to tell you we were wrong,” he said at the time.

6. That was my first reaction as well. If someone could explain "why" I'd
truly like to understand how it would benefit them at all?

The RepubliCONS are doing all that they can to cut back and remove benefits that the working class poor, which includes many Blacks, NEED to survive and the NAACP are hoping he'll be able to talk at their convention? IMO they need to have him just SIT there and LISTEN at their convention while some of the more eloquent speakers talk about REAL issues that effect blacks... oh I know.... how about have him sit through a video presentation on the flooding, dead and dying of NO. :grr:

:hangover:

I dont undersand why they keep sending him an invitation????

4. Here's that link to your article!
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/15/washington/15bush.html

Another snippet from the article:
Mr. Bush was the first president in 80 years to go a full term without appearing before a convention of the N.A.A.C.P. He has had quarrelsome relations with the organization and its leaders from the moment he took office, and he was unhappy with what aides considered its unfair criticism of his record.
Bush has turned them down so many times, he shouldn't be allowed to speak now. He doesn't deserve a hearing now.

What a scum.

5. Visiting the NAACP. His party supporting racist candidates...Do
you think Bush the Christ will manage to do what no other president has ever done and bring the two sides together in a lasting United States of America patriotic peace?

Will the day come that the white supremacists and the black citizens of America will one day clasp the hands of friendship...all due to the far-sightedness of George Bush, Jr.?

Will there be a carry-over? Will he solve the Israel-Palestinian conflict with all the ease of solving the black-white problem at home?

8. So are they going to screen the audience for him?
I'm sure the bushes handlers want the audience to be another handpicked pro-neocon group, just like most of the groups the bushes talk to. That might be hard to find among the NAACP. The audience will probably be whittled down to just two people.

but KKKarl would never let that happen. So maybe Smirksalot can explain the continued lack of Katrina response, now approaching 1 year out. And he can explain the delay in the Voting Rights bill. And a hundred other racist tendencies of his repugnant party.

Nawww, its just a photo op. We, all Americans, have got to stop letting ourselves be used by them, used and thrown away.

It's Election Time! Beware of false promises!

18. Let him vist. Let him speak.
Ask him lots and lots of disacomforting questions.

Sometime when you have a problem like the DRE's the only solution is to go all the way through and out the other side.

See if it's not possible to goad the toad into pulling a stunt like the Florida roll purge, nationwide. Goad him into an act so blatant, so limburger ripe, that it can't possibly be ignored.

(Hmm. "Goad the toads" Methinks this idea could have legs. Push KKKarl (and his soulmates (Q. Can a souless one have a soulmate?)) into putting the Swiftboaters on steroids. Bait them with adds like the one under discussion today which already has specks of spittle flying. Get them so frothing at the mouth mad that they completely lose the plot and reveal themselves for what they are,

Put our Ava's WWJD before them at every turn until one of them screams that he doesn't give a f*ck what Jesus thinks.

They've mananged to alienate two thirds of the country, let's see if we can't get them to drive off some of their own base as well.

After all, didn't they come here to do our most menial tasks for very little compensation?

They vote Democrat 90%+ of the time. Think of voiding all of those votes, Karl.

Wouldn't have to worry about setting up roadblocks or require identification at the polls.

You have considered it, haven't you Karl? Impeachment, Karl. Make your move.

36. My kinder vision of what should happen when bush* speaks
My kinder vision of what should happen is he will be treated like a contestant on 'Showtime At The Apollo'. As soon as bush* opens his mouth and the lies & idiocy begins to pour out, the booing and heckling begins, growing in volume. Soon everyone is yelling, people on their feet waving him off of the stage. Then the tap dancer guy jumps onto stage with a giant hook and removes bush* from the stage.

It helps me cope with the maddness that we are living in to envision such things. :smoke:

52. What is Rove's plan here?
Ir can't be an act of respect or repentence as Bush is incapable of those qualities. So it must be something else. Bush has been shoring up his base lately, which is basically a disparate group of loonies loosely held together by racist beliefs. If it happens at all, Rove will probably cobble together a few of Bill Cosby's speeches with a smattering of weakly compassionate sounding bromides which will just miss being flat out offensive, piss off the NAACP and send a wink to his base Rove will check his boy's mental state before the event to determine whether he can pull it off. If he has been falling off his bike, babbling incoherently or sulking and ranting at staffers, they'll call it off.
