Bush, Putin announce global nuclear terror plan
ST PETERSBURG, Russia (Reuters) - President Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Saturday the launch of a plan to combat the global threat of nuclear terrorism and invited other countries to join them.

"We have come up with a joint statement about the importance of fighting acts of nuclear terrorism," Putin told a joint news conference after meeting Bush ahead of this weekend's summit of the Group of Eight industrial nations in St Petersburg.

"In this way our countries demonstrate our common commitment to undertake the most serious measures to prevent purchases, transportation and the use of radioactive materials by terrorists," he said.

The joint statement by Bush and Putin said the threat of nuclear terrorism was "one of the most dangerous international security challenges we face."

1. Putin "headbutted" Bush
That was what the BBC announcer said this morning.

I haven't been able to find any mention of it otherwise but this man said that Bush was talking about creating democracies and Putin said, "I hope it's not like the democracy you're creating in Iraq."

The announcer said it was a diplomatic equivalent of the Zidane headbutt in the World Cup final.

7. What the hell is a "joint statement" going
to accomplish? We all know nukes in the hands of anyone is a danger. Nice that these two political players agree on something, I guess. What a waste of time.
