Dayton Representative Crosses Over to GOP
I can't imagine how this would help her in a state where the GOP is toxic. The only possible benfit would be in her getting a lucrative job from the GOP, since she's been term-limited.

...

COLUMBUS - The Republican hold on the Ohio House just became a bit stronger, but the party may never get to enjoy it.

State Rep. Dixie Allen, a term-limited Dayton Democrat, yesterday made her slow stroll to the GOP side of the aisle official as she prepares to screen today for a GOP appointment to a vacancy on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.

Soundly re-elected in 2004 in a heavily Democratic district, Ms. Allen repeatedly frustrated her party's leadership by siding with Republicans on such hot-button issues as charter schools and the budget.

"By becoming a Republican, I am merely formalizing what my actions and votes have been demonstrating for quite a while to me and to others," she said. "In fact, I feel that I am doing both parties a favor with this move."

5. It is an attempt to save her seat for the GOP
She is bailing mid term which gives her political party, now the GOP, the right to name a replacement for the rest of her term. It is nothing short of skunky.

9. She voted to strip health-care insurance from 25,000 working parents
"Dixie has been putting her own personal wishes ahead of her constituents in Montgomery County," she said. "She has voted for such things as stripping health-care insurance from 25,000 working parents to pay a huge tax cut for the top 1 percent income-tax earners. Since Dixie is interested in Republicans appointing her as county commissioner, perhaps it would be in everybody's interest if she vacated her seat."

12. Interestingly, her name is Dixie,
which - correct me if i'm wrong - is a block of one-time Southern Democrats that left the party in droves during the times of desegregation. Ironic.
