'Special security situation' declared in northern Israel
'Special security situation' declared in northern Israel

Jul. 15, 2006 20:20

Defense Minister Amir Peretz declared a "special security situation" in northern Israel, enabling certain cities to be subject to martial law. The status constitutes the second highest level of alert before an emergency status.

Meanwhile. a Katyusha rocket warning system is due to be activated in southern Haifa on Sunday, Home Front Commander Yitzhak Gershon said on Saturday night.

The system will sound the alarm a minute before the rockets hit the ground in order for residents to seek shelter.

Home Front Commander Maj.-Gen. Yitzhak Gershon ordered people residing along the northern borders to remain within shelters and secured rooms and not go to work on Sunday. Gershon instructed the remainder of the northern residents to conduct their normal daily affairs, but to conduct only essential business, and remain within reach of buildings.

1. Just now on MSNBC: Israel rolls tanks into Gaza Strip.
The situation is getting much worse, and all our dickhead 'leader' can do is play patty-cake with Putie.

7. They just want Gaza LOCKED down, so they can focus on the shit
hitting the fan up north.

No one wants to fight a war on two fronts. They'll put Gaza under martial law, shoot anyone moving at night, the usual nonsense, and mitigate any threat coming from that end of things. That's why they are doing this. It's a small area, they've done it before, with tanks, with bulldozers, with tanks AND bulldozers...this is not new. It's just AGAIN....

Then, they'll go after the nonsense up north...they've already put the northern towns under martial law to control the movement of the population, which will make it harder for sneaking insurgents to make trouble up that way.

I'm thinking they'll roll tanks into southern Lebanon and reoccupy the Green Zone next.

8. Indeed...
Wouldn't want to ask Israel to show some restrain and perhaps offend his Christo-Taliban base during a mid-term election year, would we?

Israel is going WAY, WAY overboard here.

2. "subject to martial law" Israel is in a perpetual state of martial law
anyway. Makes for a dramatic flourish none the less.

3. Is Tel Aviv in that part?

You just KNOW that place is going to get bombed and Iran will be blamed. They laid it out earlier today.

Ah, no. It is in the central part.

4. So Things are Expected to Get Worse?
Is that how we can interpret this news?

If the Israelis are going to 'special security situation' status, I would imagine that means that they are planning on at least keeping this offensive against the people of Lebanon going for a good while longer.

6. Count on a "special security situation" to be declared in S. Lebanon
in very short order.

Wouldn't surprise me if they roll over the border and reoccupy the Green Zone. But if they do it, they'd better bring double the troops that they had before, and keep the entire area under martial law. Hell, last time they were there, they had a halfassed arrangement with the Lebanese Army; can't see that happening this time round.

And they'd best be prepared to take some serious casualties.

Because it is crawling with Hizb'Allah.
