Competition Is Issue; Judge Seeks Papers In AT&T, Verizon Deals

NEW YORK -- A federal judge said Friday that he wants to examine internal FCC documents regarding two large recent telephone company mergers to see whether the Justice Department protected market competition in approving the buyouts.

But what the article meant was the merger of SBC with AT&T and also the merger of Verizon with MCI.
