Ark. Lt. Gov. Win Paul Rockefeller dies
Associated Press

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Lt. Gov. Win Rockefeller, the unassuming billionaire
who last year abandoned a race for Arkansas governor - a post once held
by his father - died Sunday after unsuccessful treatments for a blood
disorder, his office said. He was 57.

Rockefeller died Sunday morning at the University of Arkansas for Medical
Sciences with his family present, said Steve Brawner, the lieutenant
governor's spokesman. Rockefeller had returned to Arkansas on July 8 from
Seattle after two unsuccessful bone marrow transplants to treat a blood
condition that can lead to leukemia.

Rockefeller had undergone transplants Oct. 7 and March 29 in attempts to cure
an unclassified myeloproliferative disorder. The lieutenant governor notified
Gov. Mike Huckabee immediately on his return to the state that he could not
continue in his duties, at least temporarily.

4. yes, all the treatment could not save him. He is cousin to Jay Rockefeller

.....Born Sept. 17, 1948, in New York, Rockefeller was the only child of Winthrop Rockefeller and Barbara "Bobo" Sears, the daughter of an immigrant Lithuanian coal miner. An uncle was former vice president Nelson Rockefeller, and current U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., is a cousin.

8. This bothers me
>>>Rockefeller had returned to Arkansas on July 8 from Seattle after two unsuccessful bone marrow transplants to treat a blood condition that can lead to leukemia.<<

I wonder if this was done purely as a preventative measure, to stave off the leukemia?

If so, it seems he might have had a better chance at just fighting the leukemia.

I have a soft spot for Rockerfellers, they brought my family to America back in the Standard Oil days.

11. I found this hard to understand, too, but apparently....
the only chance for life once this particular condition is diagnosed is a successful bone marrow transplant. Wish I knew more.

16. He had two transplants that I know of.
There was hope for awhile, but we all knew it was over when he came home just about a week ago. Peace Be unto his family and all who loved him.

and a conservative, but not the hate-filled kind. In fact, his heart was full of love, especially for kids with special needs (he had more than one of his own). He was beloved by all who knew him.

7. Thanks for the insight into Win's life.
Sounds as if he was a compassionate conservative in the truest sense of the word. A good soul has left this earth. His was a life well lived--would that we could say that about so many other Republicans still among us.

10. And a supporter of families who were survivors of Law Enforcement Officers
killed in the line of duty. These are the wealthy I support, those who give back to their country and community.

12. Win Rockefeller was a good and decent man.
His father did much good for this state as Governor and I believe that Win Paul learned something about giving back from the Old Man. That Win Paul loved this Arkansas, there is no doubt. If I was a prayin' man, his family and friends would sure be in my prayers.

Let DU please note there there IS such a thing as a Good Republican, although they are few and far between lately.

Regnat Populus!

14. I heard him speak last year ...
when covering an early campaign event. He struck me as a genial fellow, down-home and direct and not at all rabid in the way many Repubs are in Arkansas lately.

20. This is very, very sad
Win Rockefeller was one of the few Republicans in public office today whom I genuinely admired and respected and whom I hoped would go far in terms of political success. He seemed to have a genuine compassion and empathy for those less fortunate and well off than him and a heartfelt desire to change the world and make it a better place. He took after his father, who was a progressive voice for civil rights in Arkansas in the 1960s and of whom Bill Clinton speaks highly in his memoirs. Both father and son died much too young and before their time and the American political landscape is poorer for not having had them to contribute it for longer.

RIP Win Rockefeller. You left us much too soon but, during the 57 years in which you walked this earth, you changed it for the better and the world is much better for having you in it. May angels guide your path to the next world

My deepest, most profound and sincere thoughts, prayers and condolences to Win Rockefeller’s family.
