Del. Spill Fouls 5-Mile Stretch of River
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Workers tried to clean up 2,100 gallons of spilled waste oil Sunday that fouled a five-mile stretch of the Christina River on the Wilmington Riverfront.

The oil spewed into the river after a hose ruptured Saturday evening during a transfer of waste oil from one tank to another at the International Petroleum Co. of Delaware facility, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The facility is operated by USFilter, a subsidiary of Siemens. The cause of the rupture was under investigation, said Vince Glorioso, a business unit manager for USFilter.

After the hose failed, a secondary containment system held 5,800 gallons of waste oil, but the remaining 2,100 gallons escaped into the river, Glorioso said.

1. American media is too dense, too busy, or doesn't care enough to cover it.

2. I think that the various wars and bombings are pushing this stuff into
the background, much to the delight of the company responsible I'm sure.

4. Stupid state
Wasn't Delaware the first state to allow corporations? We are surprised at the destruction of our enviroment?

5. It may have immediately fouled 5 miles
but will end up being hugely destructive of many, many more miles than that.

Also, the use of the word "fouled". How many animals living there have been "fouled"?

Also, why were they transferring waste oil from one tank to another? For the fun of it?

Called Chesapeake Bay in more recent times by immigrants, will be further fouled by the republicon-corporate-profit-obsessed BORG.

8. Try Delaware Bay
The Christina River flows into the lower Delaware River where it forms the Delaware Bay. Yes it will foul the bay.
