Kabul - A coalition soldier, six Afghan army forces, and scores of Taliban fighters were killed in separate firefights in Afghanistan, while four civilians were killed in a suicide attack in the eastern province of Paktia, officials said Sunday.

The coalition soldier, whose nationality was not given, was killed in a firefight between coalition forces and extremists in the Day Chopan district of Zabul province, the US military said in a statement.

Meanwhile, a suicide bomber detonated himself in front of a government office in Gardiz, the capital of Paktia province, killing himself and four passers-by and injuring 23 others, eight with serious wounds, Yousif Stanizai, Interior Ministry spokesman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

Meanwhile at least 27 Taliban militants were killed, 18 wounded and 10 others were arrested during hours-long fighting with Afghan- US-led coalition forces in the village of Mirmando in the Sangin district of southern Helmand province late Saturday, said Haji Mohyudding Khan, provincial spokesman.

Khan said another eight Taliban militants were killed and four wounded in another clash in the Charkheyarmand area of Sangin district that occurred on Saturday and continued until Sunday.
