Israeli warplanes blasted east and north Lebanon on Monday killing 13 people after Hizbollah rockets struck deeper into Israel than ever before, with no diplomatic initiative in sight to end the fighting.

The latest wave destroyed two army posts on the northern Lebanese coast, killing nine Lebanese soldiers, and damaging the homes of Hizbollah officials in the east of the country, killing five people in over 40 strikes on the sixth day of violence....(more@ link, mostly repeating old stuff, but new bits at first)

Nine Lebanese soldiers were killed and many more wounded in Israeli air strikes on two army bases on the northern Lebanese coast early on Monday, a security source said.

The source said the troops were killed in strikes on an army base at the port of Tripoli and at Abdeh, adding that there could be other casualties.

2. So now the Lebanese Army is in the crosshairs?
Seems counterproductive if the goal is get the Lebanese gov't to crack down on Hezbollah.

3. You may be onto something there. In fact, it's pretty much like them
blaming Syria for these troubles a couple of years after they made Syria leave. Then they say Syria didn't/doesn't do enough to reign in Hebzollah.

4. Wait a minute --- I thought the Lebanese army was supposed to
somehow replace or take over S. Lebanon from Hizbolla -- how that that be done if the Lebanon army is now a target.

Who the hell is making the war plans for the Israeli army -- Rummy??

Or the plan is to hit everything in Lebanon -- just to piss off anyone in Lebanon who just might not know that Lebanon is under attack by . . . . .

5. I thought Hizbollah was in the south
I thought the population of the north was mostly Sunni and Christian. So, how can this be considered a balanced response to the Hizbollah raid on the border post, or the Katushya attacks?

It seems more calculated to goad Syria, Iran, and the U.S. into a wider war. For all we know, it may be with Bush's blessing though.

I expect that there will be a raid on Syria within a few days, at this rate.
