Mexico leftist to launch civil resistance
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Backed by hundreds of thousands of followers, the leftist who lost Mexico's presidential vote vowed on Sunday to launch a civil resistance campaign to protest at fraud and force a recount.

Huge crowds chanting "You are not alone," cheered Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, runner-up in the July 2 election by a fraction, on a march through the capital to the Zocalo square.

---

"We are going to start peaceful civil resistance to defend democracy," Lopez Obrador told supporters, some of whom walked, traveled on battered old buses or even rode on horseback to the capital from around the country.

---

"People are really angry. We're not just going to go home. We're going to keep going until he is declared president," said Francisco Benavides, a farmer from the state of Morelos.

1. "We're not just going to go home."
"We're going to keep going until he is declared president."

Three cheers for the Mexican people for not putting up with a stolen election.

10. Pehaps Mexican citizens can...
...set the example we need to see in order to believe we, the people, have the same power in the U.S.
We just have to make up our minds to do it.

Of course, MSM will dutifully follow their corporate keeper's wishes that it be played way down if not completely ignored.

15. I was amazed when Gore and all just let them steal it. Most dems
would have peacefully demonstrated for months.

4. Could that BE more pejorative?
The "leftist" who "lost." And it goes downhill from there. Thanks to Reuters, official whore of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

6. It really worries me
that another puppet as bad or worse than Bush will be INSTALLED in the presidential office. The Mexicans know how to handle election fraud and the crooks that come out of the woodwork.

My fellow brothers and sisters of Mexico SHUT YOUR COUNTRY DOWN until the votes are truly recounted. Any other way and you will end up down in out of Democracy at least as you once knew it.

11. He started out by saying
that if he was declared to have lost, even by one vote (presumably after the challenges), he would respect the results.

Then he was saying the same thing, with the clear understanding that he had perfect faith that he had one.

Now he's down to merely having perfect faith that he won, with his supporters avowing open disrespect if the tribunal finds otherwise.

Presumably he's coming to a growing awareness of his coming apotheosis.

12. They've got photos, video, audio, and eyewitnesses redording the rigging
http://www.narconews.com/Issue42/article1972.html

ADmnittedly, narconews isn't unbiased, but they're still fairly solid, and reporting what a host of other Latin American and Mexican news agencies are reporting. We're just not hearing about it here. Obrador's not changing his stance; the ground underneath him is changing it for him.

14. What a piece of crap article that is.
This Noel Randewich, who wrote it, doesn't even pretend to be unbiased. He calls the challenger a leftist continually, he stated Obrador had lost even though a recount had not been accomplished.

Then there is this little biased gem:

"Mexico City's police, controlled by the left, put the crowd at 1.1 million people but it seemed more like over 200,000."

So Noel Randewich estimated the crowd for us all and we can guarantee he isn't biased. So we know good old Noel knows more than the police because... he has years of experience with crowd control?

16. The right wing pigs always call the left names; its their only defense
because they can't tell the truth. That right wing piglet spawn of our monkey is a filthy corporatist and he won't do anything for the poor but makes their lives worse.

17. That little gem is absolutely typical of right-wing owned media, isn't it?
One look at any of those photos taken in that huge plaza would tell a person 200,000 would be only a drop in the bucket there.

We can expect them to continue lying. Anyone not bright enough to think for himself/herself, and to question will be taken in by them.

20. Breathtaking. So beautiful.
It's amazing news media stopped seriously estimating the size of democratic crowds in the last couple of decades.
