Halutz: No intention to attack Syria at this time

"We have no intention of operating against Syria at this time," Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz told the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday. According to Halutz, "Hizbullah has been trying to pull Syria into the conflict."

The chief of staff said, "It will take time to determine the effectiveness of the IDF operation in Lebanon. We do know, however, that we crippled Hizbullah's major transportation points and prevented them from transferring more weapons to their artillery units. We also know that we cleared out Hizbullah's major support networks."

"We are striking at the heart of the organization; we know that Nasrallah has not seen the light of day since the start of the campaign," he noted.

According to Halutz, "The IAF has also been destroying monuments and symbols in southern Lebanon, for example, a museum that glorified the 'expulsion of the Jews'."

9. Of course they do...I'd hope so. Wouldn't be worth a damn as a
government if they didn't prepare - especially in that part of the world.

3. Hezbollah transportation points...what does he really mean?
Is he referring to seaports, Beirut's airport, bridges along major highways? Or is he referring to secret bomb factories and warehouses?

4. I would guess Lebanon's infrastructure
Since that's what has already been attacked... I suspect it will be what keeps on being attacked...

6. Halutz: No intention to attack Syria at this time
How open ended is this statement, we prefer to attack under the cover of darkness. Perhaps on Wednesday, what's good for you? Where's the sarcasm button!!

8. Iran warns Israel not to do what Israel's given no
signs of intending to do. The true meaning of Muslim manhood, Khamenei-style.

On the other hand, showing that Khamenei-style Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance, they've also said they'd never allow Hezbollah to be disarmed.

Obviously, they believe the Lebanese government is sovereign. In this, they're also on the same page as Syria. And Hezbollah.

12. This is BS
So if I say that Israel saying they won't do what they will probably do is the true meaning of "Jewish manhood, Israeli-style" would that be acceptable?

This anti-Muslim rhetoric is pathetic, and the last place I thought I'd see it is on a progressive board.

10. They'll just attack places like Balbec, Lebanon w/ no Hezbollah there
as they have done today. Good job, destablize a secular country and create chaos that benefits no one, not even their own professed cause. They learned that from George W. Bush.

13. Why do I hear a Bush like voice behind that saying
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 12:23 PM by shadowknows69
"That being said, all options are on the table" heh heh heh.

Does anybody remember the old Shazam/Captain Marvel Comics. Early DC if not pre DC. If Bush were bald and had thick glasses I think he'd be Dr. Sivana.

14. I think that it is pretty clear that this is true
The purpose of the diplomatic attack to get Syria to withdraw from Lebanon was to allow Israel to go "wild" in Lebanon without fear of a wider war.

While Syria looks weak and spineless at this point, had their forces been in Lebanon it would have been a lot more difficult to stay out of the fighting.

The fight with Syria is left for another day. The key is destroy each country's sovereignty one by one, rather than tripping a reaction which causes the few sovereign nations left to act together.
