4. Yeah, who advises the clueless State Department?
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 07:11 PM by ShortnFiery
Also, someone said early on at The State Department something to the effect that,
"We don't know exactly how many of that 25,000 will want to be evacuated." :wtf: Here's a clue ---> ALL OF THEM, AND LIKE YESTERDAY!!!

I think they tagged a political crony version of "The Keystone Cops" to run the present State Department. They seemingly operate like a bull in a china shop. :grr:

5. You may want to look at the rest of the story.....
Congress passed this in 2003 and most Democrats voted for it:

http://www.cbo.gov/showdoc.cfm?index=3825&sequence=0

Reimbursements for Emergency Overseas Evacuation. Section 201 would allow the State Department to seek reimbursements for the emergency evacuation of employees of the U.S. government, their dependents, private U.S. citizens, and foreign nationals. According to the department, this section of the bill codifies existing practice and would have no impact on the budget.

13. not sure what the history is.
I was actually evacuated from Lebanon in June of 1967. We were not Government or State department. I was a teenager and neither my Mom nor I could remember if we had to repay. (Dad's dead)

According to the department, this section of the bill codifies existing practice and would have no impact on the budget.

So in other words, they were doing it all along, even before it was the law?!

8. I have said for years that the GOP does not understand this----
OUR gov. is a service to 'we the people' not a switch of tax payers money to Bush;s pals or a business set up for profit.

22. The talk of flip-flops etc...
will bear no fruit. The republicans will claim on all media sources that the Dems passed this eeeevil law forcing those poor stranded people to be trapped, while the great and benevolent republicans are the ones who overruled the law and saved them.
