"Former Christian Coalition leader Ralph Reed conceded defeat about 9:55 p.m. in Georgia’s Republican primary for lieutenant governor.

With 43 percent of precincts reporting, election results showed Reed trailing by Sen. Casey Cagle (R-Gainesville) by 10 points."

6. It would be nice to think...
That this would be the last we hear of him.

It would also be nice to be independently wealthy.

Two things that ain't gonna happen.

11. I hope so. He's a toxic little goblin. Cagle is no great prize, but I
feel that slowing Reed's march to power in a high-profile race like this is a darned good thing.

14. Lesser evil.
One doesn't have to think back very far to remember when Reed was one of the brightest stars of the GOP.

This is a huge blow to the Party.

I don't know much about Georgia politics. Is Cagle a lock?

16. Don't know. I'll defer to Georgia DUers on that one, but you are
absolutely right -- a lot of those far-right fundie Rethuglicans felt that Ralph Reed would be God's Chosen in the White House.

It really is a huge blow.

43. I crossed over as well.
I believe that Dems crossing over to vote against Reed swung a tight race (which he may have lost anyway) into the 10% or so defeat it turned out to be.

So Georgia rejected Ralph Reed - religious con man, GOP operative, Abramoff lobbyist and wedge issue specialist - and I couldn't be prouder!

YES! This hypocritical, prissy, self-serving, narcissistic, thieving, cheating, lying, fake "man of the lord", Ralphy Boy, finally bites the dust. Good frikkin' riddance. Nothing worse than a man who uses the name and teachings of Jesus Christ to hurt his fellow man. I hope the door does hit him in the ass - forcefully, and repeatedly. Hypocrite.

Ralph Reed, with his family, conceding the Republican nomination for Georgia lieutenant governor Tuesday night.

By SHAILA DEWAN
Published: July 19, 2006

ATLANTA, Wednesday, July 19 — Ralph Reed, the former director of the Christian Coalition and a former Republican lobbyist involved in the Jack Abramoff scandal, suffered an embarrassing defeat in his effort to win the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor on Tuesday. Mr. Reed conceded defeat before 10 p.m., with his opponent leading by more than 10 percentage points.

Early Wednesday, with more than 92 percent of precincts reporting, Mr. Reed’s opponent, State Senator Casey Cagle, led with 56 percent of the vote. Mr. Reed’s candidacy was viewed as a test of the effects of the Washington lobbying scandal on core Republican voters.

Mr. Reed, the former leader of the Georgia Republican Party, was a close associate of Jack Abramoff, the lobbyist who pleaded guilty to charges of fraud, tax evasion and bribery and who arranged for Mr. Reed to be paid by Indian tribes that ran casinos to coordinate anti-gambling campaigns against competing casinos.

“It’s clear that politicians that put money before their morals should be very worried by these results,” said David Donnelly, the director of Campaign Money Watch, which spent $100,000 to campaign against Mr. Reed.

42. The little shit had the nerve to pull a "Reagan 1976" and talk about
how his "values will win".

An upbeat Reed told a crowd of a few dozen cheering supporters that, although his candidacy had ended, his conservative message will live on.
“Stay in the fight. Don’t retreat. And our values will win in November,” he said.

I would think even the wing nuts would be pissed at little Ralphie's attempt to borrow from Ronald Reagan. He really has no shame at all. At least Reagan didn't sell his soul for a mess of pottage.
