60 Somalis arrested for watching videos

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Islamic militiamen who rule Somalia's capital arrested about 60 people for watching videos in several overnight raids in the capital, an Islamic court official and residents said Wednesday.

The roundup was the latest move by the militiamen to forcefully apply their strict interpretation of Islamic law, a practice that has stoked concerns that they want to remake Somalia after
Afghanistan under the Taliban — including offering a haven to terrorists.

Those arrested "will be rehabilitated and then we will release them after they are told the disadvantages of watching such films and what Islam says about watching such films," said Moalin Shire, an official of the Islamic court whose jurisdiction includes one video hall that was raided.

Militiamen armed with assault rifles raided five halls in the northern Sinay neighborhood late Tuesday and arrested women and men who had paid to watch videos, said Dahir Ali Wehliye, a resident in the area.

I was hoping for a glimpse of the "such films" they were arrested for watching, but apparently it's just like America where it is perfectly OK for young children to witness, admire and even participate in violence, but don't let 'em see a nipple.

If you can control all joy so that none can be had outside of the faith, then you can control the people. What remains unanswered is what joy do the extremists of this faith allow?

13. It's about keeping people uneducated.....

These people, along with the poor in the middle east are their soldiers. They want them to view the west as their enemies, and the cause of their plight. They don't want them to know that in the west people live better lives, or find out that a very select few in their culture has been hording the riches produced by their countries natural resources (oil), while they live their lives without shoes or a change of clothes.

The only source of education is their clerics, who are funded by the oil barrons. Keeping them uneducated, keeps the riches for themselves.
