Mexico's Fox Says Disputed Vote Will Spur Electoral Change

July 19 (Bloomberg) -- Mexican President Vicente Fox said his country's disputed election result will spur lawmakers to enact changes to the voting system.

Presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador challenged the result of the July 2 election in court and alleged fraud. Felipe Calderon, a former energy minister under Fox, was ruled the winner in two vote counts. He won by less than 250,000 votes out of more than 40 million cast.

``This election will invite all parties to see that plans before congress are processed,'' Fox said at a press conference in Madrid. ``I'm in favor of a second round'' of voting.

Mexico's electoral system, with only one round of voting, means that minority candidates take votes away from the front- runner, potentially depriving the winner of a popular majority.

1. Meanwhile, half the US smirks and shakes it head, saying,

4. That's what Tom Delay said about the 2000 election: Let's reform the
election system.

Look out, Mexico! You think your election system is bad now? Just wait til the fascists finish "reforming" it!
