5. What?
Is supposed to be the one taken in Gaza taken two weeks prior to the Hesbollah raid? Because the whole Lebanon thing wasn't just because of the two kidnapped soldiers because in the raid 8 additional Israeli soldiers were killed.

Police hold soldier suspected of faking his own abduction

By Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent

Police arrested Wednesday evening an Israel Defense Forces soldier, 19, suspected of falsely reporting that he had been abducted.

On Wednesday morning police went on high alert following reports on the infiltration of a would-be suicide bomber to Israel. A few hours later a soldier told police that he spotted in Herzliya a vehicle that matches the description of the car allegedly used by the terrorist.

14. It's not a matter of liking that or not .. its a matter of failing to see
why this should raise suspicions.

20. Lots of things can be faked
Infiltrating opposition groups and performing terrorist attacks to be blamed on those groups is routine for the fascist RW/intel community.

10. Ha Aretz is relatively ballanced. They also report on all the times...
that the Israeli courts sentence Israeli soldiers to prison for being mean to the poor, innocent, blameless Palestinians.

very balanced and fair in their reporting.

16. appears the soldier had "personal problems"

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/740369.html

<snip>

Upon his arrest the soldier told police that he had indeed been kidnapped and was taken to the nearby Arab town of Fureidis. But after being questioned some more it emerged that the soldier made up the story about his abduction.

He told his interrogators that before leaving his army base that morning he stole a bipper and used the information transmitted to fake the abduction story. The soldier said that he did this in order to get the attention of his superiors after they ignored his requests for help with personal problems.

21. That may be true
but they are not always reliable and I've seen them print some outrageous stories that have no basis in reality.

For example, when the space shuttle Columbia crashed, they claimed it was terrorism and the start of WWIII.

I posted the story on DU at the time because it was so over the top.
