Governor Intervenes for Nurse (Jebby, Jebby, Jebby)
http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060720/NEWS/607200448

ST. PETERSBURG -- Gov. Jeb Bush's latest foray into the controversy surrounding Terri Schiavo is raising eyebrows among some state lawmakers.

After conversations with the Governor's Office last week, the Florida Health Department asked the state Board of Nursing to dismiss a complaint filed in May accusing a nurse of violating state and federal privacy laws by talking about Schiavo on national TV.

Three members of the Senate Health Care Committee question Bush's involvement and the department's reversal.

"I guess there's some pressure obviously placed on them to change their minds, and I don't find that appropriate," said state Sen. Nan Rich, D-Weston, referring to the Health Department. "Let's not let politics determine the outcome of administrative complaints."

1. This nurse should never be allowed near another patient again
yet Jeb intervenes to save her ass. Sure looks like Abuse of Power to me.

5. If this is her first offense, then a repramand is appropriate. --or proba-
tion. what she did was wrong, yet yanking a license is serious business--preserved for professionals who use drugs, compromise patient saftey, etc.

7. This woman is a flaming nut case
she went on national television claiming that Terri could do and say things that were impossible.

She also violated a patients right to privacy.

This woman should not be allowed near other people with a ten foot pole.

3. Ain't that the truth!
He's said he won't run for Prez in '08. Hasn't said a stinkin' word about not being a Veep nominee.

The Bushes want to be Caesars.

"Sic semper tyrannis," as the Virginia motto says.

9. she's a pathological liar
and if she lied about Terri Schiavo she would lie about whether she gave a patient meds or did a treatment or any number of things. She should not be allowed to practice.

14. That nurse needs to undergo a thorough mental health exam.
Edited on Thu Jul-20-06 08:11 PM by Ilsa
For a first offense, hers was a doozy, not like forgetting to chart a piss or something. She can eiuther get mental health care or own up to lying about Schiavo for political and personal reasons. Someone should investigate whether she got a payoff from the family for doing that.

If Jebby thinks she's so great, he should hire her for the family's personal nurse. See how much he ikes her nursing skills when she starts blabbing about their medicine cabinet to the media.

15. Be very careful what you wish for...
"That nurse needs to undergo a thorough mental health exam."

Employers are increasingly resorting to the use of psychological evaluations as fishing expeditions to get rid of employees that offend them in some way.

Psych evals are incredibly invasive procedures and employers generally (with are a few exceptions) have no business invading the employee's privacy to such an extent. Psych evals typically produce a considerable amount of data (and some of it will be bogus) that could be misunderstood and/or deliberately misused to stigmatize, dismiss, and/or destroy outspoken employees. Think Soviet dissidents.

The tools available to those in the psych profession are relatively crude, not particularly reliable, and the accuracy of evaluations and the efficacy of treatment are grossly overestimated by the general public. The use of such evals by employers (or disciplinary boards) is a Pandora's box. Its potential as a weapon in the hands of unscrupulous employers is something that proponents of workers' rights would do well to consider. The potential for abuse and grievous harm to workers far outweighs any good that might come from it.

17. Your point is well taken regarding employers and disciplinary
boards, and I agree about the margin of error. You are totally on target with not giving employers an inept tool for dismissal of undesirabe employees.

I'm thinking maybe if she has a severe problem that has recently developed, such as bipolar or schozophrenia, she may have gotten by without reporting it at the time of her license renewal.

Thanks for straightening me out! :hi:
