Amnesty International Accuses US Firms Over China Web Censorship
NYT/Reuters: Amnesty Accuses US Firms Over China Web Censorship
By REUTERS
Published: July 20, 2006

BEIJING (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O), Google Inc (GOOG.O) and Yahoo Inc (YHOO.O) have breached the Universal Declaration on Human Rights in colluding with China to censor the Internet, Amnesty International said on Thursday.

The three publicly traded companies are ignoring their own stated commitments -- which in Google's case includes corporate motto "Don't be evil'' -- and are in denial over the human rights implications of their actions, the group said.

"All three companies have, in one way or another, facilitated or concluded in the practice of censorship in China,'' London-based Amnesty said in a report....

Yahoo defended itself by saying its presence in China, even with the restrictions, could still help open up the country and added that it, too, was concerned by the issue....

***

The group said it was calling on the three companies and other Internet firms to lobby Beijing to release all "cyber dissidents,'' be open about what filtering policies they operate and promote human rights in China....

1. On the plus side, you can have fun with spammers because of this
Many of the spammers have websites hosted in China.

When you report your spam through SpamCop, or report it to their ISP, or if you reply to their spam, send them this link:

Or, email the spammer this text:

2. Hey Amnesty...
There are a lot of companies doing business in China? And that's a whole lot worst

There are lots of bodies still piling up in other places where 'internet censorship' would be a premium service to the basic regular plan of torture, murder and imprisonment -- which is actually going on in China, which should be more of a concern to Amnesty International, rather than worrying about whether western corporations have FULL ACCESS to any country.

Come on Amnesty -- go back to supporting real issues instead of 'popular' issues your non-unionized, underpaid foot canvassers can grift easily off of liberals.
