Switzerland demands Lebanese ceasefire
Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey has called for a ceasefire between Israel and Islamic Hezbollah militants in Lebanon and insists on the application of humanitarian law.

(snip)
Calmy-Rey said in Bern on Thursday that a negotiated end to the conflict, which began nine days ago after Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, was the only viable solution.

She added that while the soldiers should be returned, a prisoner exchange would be a more likely step towards defusing the crisis.

(snip)
"Some governments have learnt nothing since the invasion of Iraq," she added.

1. Switzerland demands a Lebanese ceasefire?
... So what will Switzerland do if they refuse, freeze the Israeli and Hezbollah Swiss bank accounts? Actually, that would make a lot of sense and might just work.

2. "Some governments have learnt nothing since the invasion of Iraq"
Actually they have learned plenty: they've seen (once more) you can always get away with it if you have the bomb. By all rights, George W. Bush and his administration's top officers should all be under arrest facing warcrimes trials. Several, perhaps dozens, of corporate officers should be under arrest for war profiteering. But none of them will ever even be charged.
