Halliburton Almost Doubles Earnings
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/060720/earns_halliburton.html?.v=1

HOUSTON (AP) -- Oil services conglomerate Halliburton Co. posted second-quarter net income nearly double that of a year ago mostly on strong demand for and higher prices charged by its energy services sector, the company announced late Thursday.

Net income was $591 million, or 55 cents per share, compared with $392 million, or 38 cents per share, in the second quarter of 2005. Results in the most recent quarter include $82 million in after-tax income from discontinued operations, or 7 cents per share, and a pretax gain of $123 million on the sale of the production services group of KBR, Halliburton's construction and engineering segment.

Revenue reached $5.54 billion, up 12 percent from $4.97 billion in the year-ago period.

The energy service segment's performance reflected increased rig activity, higher use of assets and higher prices, the company said.

4. One wonders if all the billions of dollars funneled to Halliburton make it
to the reported revenue and income streams.

8. "Oil Services Conglomerate?" Why not just call them Sole-Source-No-Bid Co.
Last time I checked, the U.S. govt. didn't own any oil rigs.

10. The news that doesn't fit!
I invite anyone to look up the 5 year stock chart for Halliburtan. It goes in a straight line from twelve to eighty from the fall of 2002. You might make a new documentary from John Ford called: "Why We Fight".

11. I rent a car several times a year.
I was at an Avis location in a Marriott waiting for the counter person. There was one person in front of me with the Avis employee. He was cussing her out because the convertible Mustang he had reserved back home in Houston was not a color up to his standards. Eventually, he put up with having a black Mustang, instead of a red mustang and stormed away.

As he was finishing up, I noticed that the tag on his briefcase was a Halliburton business card.

That's my Halliburton story.

14. This guy was an executive.
The field workers might be perfectly nice people who risk their necks driving things around Iraq or doing construction work wherever.

This guy was a suit, a "major asshole", and will never plant his soft butt anywhere at risk.
