British capture Iraqi bombs mastermind
British forces in Iraq have seized a two-ton cache of weapons - including rockets, grenades and bomb-making equipment - belonging to the gang responsible for the deaths of numerous servicemen.

The discovery, which military commanders believe is the most significant breakthrough since they arrived in Iraq in 2003, followed the arrest of the leader of the fundamentalist Shia group in Basra last weekend.

Des Browne, the Defence Secretary, told The Daily Telegraph: "We got a very important person, the leader of a very dangerous militia gang, which will lead to a very significant deterioration in their capability … This is a sign of significant progress."

Mr Browne said Sajjad Badr Adal Saeed, the Jamaa leader who ordered the killing of many British soldiers in roadside attacks, was taken from his home in Basra last Saturday night. Ordnance tactics handbooks, fake IDs and detonators were found. "This man was a very significant leader," Mr Browne said. "He was a planner, but he also had technical abilities which were very valuable to the militia."

1. Somehow I don't share the Brits optomism. Every time something
happens to a 'key' person, a leader, things just seem to get worse rather than better. I mean Zaq's death didn't help anything regardless of what the bush** admin and the puppet government say.

7. Maybe.
But why wouldn't someone just replace him? There are probably other people with his abilities.

10. so what, it is still good to have a person who makes bombs
that kill out of the picture

That doesn't mean they won't have a replacement

11. ** Jan. 2005 ** - Iraq arrests bombing mastermind, it says
Iraq arrests bombing mastermind, it says

The lieutenant of a wanted militant admits to organizing many of the car bombings in Iraq since August 2003.

BAGHDAD - Security forces in Iraq have captured two senior aides to the most wanted militant in Iraq, bringing in his top bombmaker and his propaganda chief in the past 10 days, an Iraqi government spokesman said Monday.

The bombmaker confessed to masterminding most of the car bombings in Iraq, including the bloody 2003 assault on the U.N. headquarters in the capital, the spokesman said.

The announcements came hours after a suicide car bomb exploded near the headquarters of Prime Minister Ayad Allawi's political party, injuring at least 10 people in the latest blast claimed by al-Qaida in Iraq. The bomb detonated at a checkpoint guarded by a special unit of the Iraqi police.

The captured bombmaker, Sami Muhammad Ali Said Jaaf, was a top lieutenant of the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian militant who has a $25-million bounty on his head.

So, how is this capture going to be different and make things better in Iraq?

13. 2 tons of bombs siezed - how many tons left?
How much high explosive was it that the Bush let slip away from just one Iraqi arms depot - 800 tons?
