somehow, I missed this!

President Bush's visit to Colorado today on the heels of his first-ever veto brings the debate over stem cell research to the forefront of the state's hottest congressional race.
Just two days after blocking Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette's bill to expand embryonic stem cell research, Bush is scheduled to appear in DeGette's home district to raise money for 7th District congressional candidate Rick O'Donnell. O'Donnell, a Republican who supports the president's position on stem cells, might have gotten away from the issue without much fanfare.
But today, as O'Donnell arrives aboard Air Force One with Bush and the pair ride to a private home in Cherry Hills Village for a $1,000-a-plate luncheon, DeGette and other Democrats will try to rub O'Donnell's nose in the controversy.
DeGette plans to lead a protest rally starting at 10:45 a.m. outside First Universalist Church of Denver, 4101 E. Hampden Ave. All three Democrats running against O'Donnell in Denver's western, northern and eastern suburbs also plan to speak out against the president's veto.
When she speaks around 11:30 a.m., DeGette will be joined by patients who, she says, would benefit from embryonic stem cell research.
"She is just going there because the president has refused to meet with her on this issue, and to express her disappointment and outrage that he used his first and only veto on this potentially life-saving research," DeGette spokesman Brandon MacGillis said Thursday.
