When Imad Hoteit walks the streets of Montreal today to protest against Israel's recent attacks on Lebanon and Gaza, he'll be doing it for his family living in Beirut.

The 26-year-old student at Concordia University hasn't slept through a night since returning to Canada from the Lebanese capital on July 11, just two days before the city's international airport was targeted.

He is gripped by fears that his parents and two sisters could be the next victims in the series of attacks that began last week and have killed more than 300 Lebanese.

"What we see on television and what we hear is only a fraction of what's going on at this stage," said Mr. Hoteit, one of thousands of protesters expected to hit the streets in at least 10 Canadian cities today.

3. It's because we have a very large
and thriving Lebanese community in both Ottawa and Montreal and because Lebanon was a French colony at one point and is a member of La Franophonie as Canada is by virtue of our bilingual status and huge Francophone population.
